Darien Grand List Increases $34.5 Million DARIEN, Conn. - Darien's grand list increased $34.5 million for a total value of $8.9 billion as of Oct. 1, 2012. This represents a 0.39 percent increase over the 2011 grand list. The grand list represents the total assessed values for all real estate, personal property and motor vehicles in Darien as of the beginning of October. Bald Eagle Swoops In Over Darien's Holly Pond DARIEN, Conn. — Darien Daily Voice readers John and Elizabeth Ward snapped these photos of a bald eagle visiting Holly Pond in Darien on Tuesday. The Wards were in awe as they watched the eagle flying around Holly Pond, sizing up buffleheads — a type of duck — for a meal. They said they have never seen an eagle at Holly Pond in their 10 years of living in town.

Darien Parents Want School Money Spent On Technology DARIEN, Conn. — Darien parents urged the Board of Education not to cut spending for school technology at a public hearing Tuesday. "Technology is an integral part of the learning that goes on each day in our schools," said Susan Vogel, co-chair of the Council of Darien School Parents. Darien has proposed spending $407,000 next year on technology. Vogel pointed out that 79 percent of this is for maintenance and upgrades to existing infrastructure. Darien Middle School Art Teacher Rosemary Cellini Dies DARIEN, Conn. – Rosemary Cellini, an art teacher at Darien's Middlesex Middle School and a Norwalk resident, died Monday, Superintendent Stephen Falcone announced. "Rosemary’s passing is a tremendous loss to the students and staff at MMS as well as the entire district," Falcone wrote in an email to the faculty and staff. Norwalk Man Charged With Running Light, Fleeing Police NORWALK, Conn. – A Norwalk man was arrested on several motor vehicle charges Monday after police said he ran a red light and fled from pursuing officers. Terry Braxton, 36, was charged with failure to obey a control signal, operating without a license, interfering with an officer, driving without insurance, failure to renew his registration, improper use of plates and refusing to be fingerprinted. Handguns Reported Stolen From Norwalk Home NORWALK, Conn. - Two handguns were reported missing and possibly stolen from a Norwalk home, police said. The owner of the home on Blue Mountain Road told police that he had last seen the guns in August when he cleaned them. He had put them in a safe and locked it. On Feb. 1 he noticed that the safe was closed but not locked and that the two guns were missing. Man Charged In Norwalk With DWI, Having Knife In Car NORWALK, Conn. - A Ridgefield man was charged with driving under the influence and carrying a knife in his car early Tuesday morning. Norwalk police received a call from Ridgefield police that Edward King, 28, had been involved in a domestic dispute and was heading toward South Norwalk, possibly to purchase drugs, according to police reports. Darien High School Dedicates New Fitness Center DARIEN, Conn. — The Blue Wave Booster Club dedicated the opening of the new fitness center at Darien High School. Members of the Booster Club's board presented a plaque to Athletic Director Michael Sullivan and Fitness Coordinator Nick Demaio during a boys basketball game against Staples High School.
