Darien High School Dedicates New Fitness Center DARIEN, Conn. — The Blue Wave Booster Club dedicated the opening of the new fitness center at Darien High School. Members of the Booster Club's board presented a plaque to Athletic Director Michael Sullivan and Fitness Coordinator Nick Demaio during a boys basketball game against Staples High School. The plaque will be displayed outside the newly refurbished fitness center. The Booster Club led a fundraising campaign that brought in $175,000 in donations from the community. Darien Seniors May Be Eligible For Property Tax Relief DARIEN, Conn. - Darien senior homeowners over the age of 65 may be eligible for tax credits on their real estate property tax, according to Tax Assessor Anthony Homicki. Applications are now being accepted for credits under the Circuit Breaker Program, Town Program or Elderly Tax Deferral. Applications must be filed by May 15. To be eligible, homeowners must be 65 years old on or before December 31, 2012, and have an income not exceeding $49,900 for married couples and $42,500 for single persons. Police: 'Mystery Shopper' Company Scams Darien Woman DARIEN, Conn. – A Darien woman was scammed by a fake company that offered her a job as a "mystery shopper" sending checks via Western Union, according to police. The woman received an email on Jan. 16 from a company called Market Force, Inc., offering her a position as a mystery shopper. The job description said she would get paid to evaluate the performance of Western Union employees. Norwalk Bank Employee Charged With Stealing $6,000 NORWALK, Conn. -- An employee of a Norwalk bank has been accused of stealing $6,000 from the bank in December, according to police. Patricia Morency, 24, of Norwalk was charged with third-degree larceny and second-degree computer crime. She was released on a promise to appear in court on Feb. 13. Employees at the TD Bank where Morency worked are authorized to issue 24-hour lines of credit in extenuating circumstances such as bank error, police said.
