Darien To Vote On Plastic Bag Ban Monday DARIEN, Conn. – Darien will decide whether or not to ban plastic bags next week. The debate over creating an ordinance to ban plastic shopping bags has gone on for years, but will finally be put to a vote by the Representative Town Meeting Monday night. If implemented, the ban would give stores six to nine months to get rid of their current stock of plastic shopping bags. After that, stores that still hand out the bags could face fines of up to $150. Enforcement of the ban will be overseen by the Environmental Protection Commission. Darien Gas Prices Soar But Might Fall Soon DARIEN, Conn. – Gas prices in Darien and across the state are once again reaching nation-leading levels. But experts from AAA predict that fuel costs will drop soon. Connecticut’s gas prices were the highest in the continental U.S. as of Tuesday, according to data from AAA. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in the state is $4.156, compared with a nationwide average of $3.859. Only Hawaii at $4.408 has a higher per-gallon average. Storm Knocks Out Power To 330 In Darien DARIEN, Conn. – A total of 330 Connecticut Light & Power customers in Darien were without power as of 6:30 p.m. Tuesday because of high winds and rain. The outages represent 4 percent of CL&P customers in town. Throughout the state, 16,388 CL&P customers, or 1 percent, had lost power. The National Weather Service issued tornado and high wind warnings for Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. Wind gusts are expected to be 31 to 39 mph and could reach as high as 57 mph, the warning said.

Manuel Infante was charged with risk of injury to a minor, a felony, and second-degree breach of peace, a misdemeanor. Man Charged With Stealing Norwalk Puppy NORWALK, Conn. – A Bridgeport man has been charged with snatching a valuable English bulldog from a Norwalk pet store in July. Police arrested Onnie Canady on Monday as he was being released from the Bridgeport Correctional Center. Canady went into Puppies of Westport with a young boy on July 9 and tried to purchase the $4,100 English bulldog with a credit card, police said.
