Darien Interior Designer Wins A-List Award DARIEN, Conn. – Carey Karlan of Last Detail Interior Design in Darien won the 2012 A-List Award in the dining room category of Moffly Media’s third annual A-List Awards. This is Karlan’s second A-List Award. Her first was in 2010 in the Kids’ Bedroom category. Karlan won for redesigning the dining room of a landmark building on Madison Avenue in New York. She fashioned the room with a black-and-white color palette with no shades of gray. Darien SAT Scores Dip Slightly DARIEN, Conn. – Darien’s SAT scores dropped slightly for the class of 2012 but stayed well above state and national averages. Darien students scored an average of 606 on math SATs in 2012, 579 in reading and 579 in writing. These scores are lower than last year, when Darien scored an average of 617 in math, 589 in reading and 604 in writing. Connecticut students in 2012 averaged 512 in math, 506 in reading and 510 in writing. The Darien Health Department and Police Department have scheduled another National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day at the Darien Transfer Station from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This will allow residents to clean out their medicine cabinets of unwanted or unused prescription drugs and dispose of them safely. The effort to ban plastic shopping bags in Darien was spearheaded by the group Choose to Reuse in Darien, which has argued that the bags present a danger to the environment. The group sought a ban similar to those seen in towns like Westport, Conn. and Rye, N.Y., where merchants can only offer shoppers paper bags or reusable cloth bags. Police: Norwalk Man Charged With 2008 Sexual Assault NORWALK, Conn. – A routine traffic stop led to a Norwalk man being arrested on a four-year-old sexual assault warrant, police said. David Gloria, 25, of Jefferson Street, was pulled over Sunday evening for talking on his cell phone while driving, police said. After stopping him, officers determined that there was a warrant for his arrest from an incident in 2008. The incident in question involved a family friend, who said Gloria hit on her and tried to kiss her and touch her inappropriately at a gathering in June 2008.
