Darien Police Charge Mass. Driver With Car Theft DARIEN, Conn. – A Massachusetts man was arrested Sunday in Darien after he passed an officer on the Post Road and the officer's license plate reader indicated the car the man was driving might be stolen.  Moises Afonso, 53, was charged with second-degree larceny, fifth-degree larceny and operating without a license. According to police reports, Afonso was driving a 2008 Chevy Suburban when he passed an officer on the Post Road. Police said Afonso got onto I-95 south and was stopped at the Exit 10 ramp. McCann was born May 23, 1967, in Tampa, Fla. She attended Lahser High School in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and Michigan State University. Darien Drowning Death Ruled Accidental DARIEN, Conn. – Darien resident Amelia McCann’s July 4 death has been officially ruled an accidental drowning. The Connecticut Chief Medical Examiner’s Office determined that her cause of death was asphyxiation due to submersion. The autopsy showed no other injuries or signs of foul play. The medical examiner’s office provided no additional information as to how the drowning occurred. McCann, 45, was discovered submerged in her backyard swimming pool Wednesday morning by her husband.
