Darien Students Create Scary Artwork Darien Students Create Scary Artwork Darien Students Create Scary Artwork
Darien Students Create Scary Artwork DARIEN, Conn. – Students used their imaginations to produce some horrifying projects last week as they created plaster monsters in the eighth-grade art classes at Middlesex Middle School. Students explored the meaning and function of a "monster" through a PowerPoint presentation with visuals that helped them imagine what their monsters would look like. The projects combine emotions, historical art figures such as gargoyles, and other visuals from different forms of media. Send photos of your Darien student's art to [email protected].

Letter: Darien Democratic Ticket Is Outstanding DARIEN, Conn. – The following letter was submitted by Darien resident Tom Duffy. The ticket of John Lundeen for first selectman, and David Bayne and Vickie Riccardo for selectmen is unusually outstanding. John's long experience in both government and private enterprise will provide him with the well-balanced and deep experience to address our key town issues. Equally important, he has the temperament, demeanor and attitude to resolve issues, which are needed to achieve genuine consensus on solutions. John also has a commitment to open, transparent and, yes, fair, government that is refreshi…

Letter: Darien Shuffle Won't Affect School Budgets Letter: Darien Shuffle Won't Affect School Budgets Letter: Darien Shuffle Won't Affect School Budgets
Letter: Darien Shuffle Won't Affect School Budgets DARIEN, Conn. – The following letter on the Suffle Project was submitted by Jennifer Montanaro of Darien. I was surprised to read letters last week stating that the approval of the facilities move would impact the education budget. As a former PTO Co-Chair and participant for several years in the Board of Education budget process, I think some clarification is needed. Money that would be spent on the renovation of 35 Leroy and the new Mather Community Center is capital funding from the Board of Selectmen. It has no relation to the money that the Board of Ed needs for students. This funding,…

The plan, known as the "Shuffle," has been debated at various levels of town government for more than a year. The Representative Town Meeting will be making the final vote. The plan involves moving the Senior Center from its current location on Edgerton Street to the Board of Education annex at Town Hall. The Board of Education offices would be moved to the site of the old library at 35 Leroy Ave., a property the town has owned since 2…

Darien Candidate Suggests New Senior Center Plan DARIEN, Conn. – The following was submitted by Vickie Riccardo, Democratic candidate for the Board of Selectmen. We all agree: Darien needs, and our seniors deserve, a new Senior Center. Here is a cost-effective, long-term alternative from Darien Working Together: Build a new Senior Center at Edgerton adjacent to the existing building. • Senior programming, services and activities will continue uninterrupted during construction. The current Senior Center can remain open until demolition. • The seniors gain a new, flexible, fully accessible building, including fitness, creative and social…

Letter: State Rep. Endorses Darien Republicans DARIEN, Conn. – The following letter was submitted by Terrie Wood, state representative for the 141st District. I am pleased to state my strong support of Jayme Stevenson for first selectman and Jerry Nielsen and David Campbell for selectmen. Working closely with Jayme, Jerry and Dave over the last two years in my state representative role, I know they serve the best interests of Darien in all that they do. They have created a plan to relocate the Senior Center and build senior affordable housing – something that this town has debated far too long without a decision. They have obtained a mo…

Darien Deemed Safe for Trick-Or-Treating DARIEN, Conn. – Darien will be safe for trick-or-treating on Halloween night, First Selectman Dave Campbell said in a message to residents Monday afternoon. Many nearby towns have postponed Halloween activities until roads and sidewalks are cleared of debris and downed wires. Campbell said the town is working with Connecticut Light & Power to restore power as quickly as possible. As of 4:30 p.m., there were 817 customers in Darien without power, or 10 percen…
