The proposed development called for 30 units of senior housing, with nine units designated as affordable. The application was submitted under Connecticut General Statute 8-30g, which allows dev…

Did Darien Luck Out on Snow-Melt Flooding? Did Darien Luck Out on Snow-Melt Flooding? Did Darien Luck Out on Snow-Melt Flooding?
Did Darien Luck Out on Snow-Melt Flooding? If you had asked Darien Emergency Management director Marc McEwan a month ago whether melting snow would cause significant flooding, he would have said yes. However, his outlook is much rosier now. "It seems like the weather's favored us," McEwan said. "Because of the snow melting prior to the rainfall, it won't impact us as much as it may have." However, Darien is not out of the woods. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for lower Fairfield County Thursday morning into Friday. Two to four inches of rain are possible. Darien Shuffle Debate Rages The plan to shuffle town facilities, including moving the senior center to Town Hall and the Board of Education to a new office at 35 Leroy Ave., continues to stir up controversy in Darien. The Board of Selectmen debated the project again Monday night, with Democrat members Callie Sullivan and David Bayne brining up more objections. "The process for considering the best use of 35 Leroy and the right size for the new senior center has been flawed since the start of the shuffle debate," Sullivan said.
