Darien 6th-Graders Top Westport Charlie Wright scored 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as the Darien Blue sixth-grade boys basketball team defeated Westport, 49-27, in a non-league game between teams from the Fairfield County Basketball League. Turnovers and foul trouble hampered Darien for a large chunk of the game. Wright was the cure as he repeatedly came up with big baskets and down with clutch rebounds. Cord Fox (eight rebounds, four steals and a block), Charlie Sealy (six rebounds, three steals, three assists and three blocks) and Casey Brown (six rebounds, two steals, three blocks and 10 points) also sparked Darie…

Slow Start Doesn't Deter New Canaan Just over two minutes into Monday's girls hockey game against Darien, New Canaan found itself down 2-0 to its fiercest Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference rival. Jana Persky and Olivia Hompe got the Rams going a few minutes later. They never stopped. Hompe scored four goals and Persky added three as the Rams (5-0) skated to a 7-2 win over the Blue Wave at Darien Ice Rink. Hompe, a sophomore, scored three goals in the second period, when the Rams took control with four unanswered goals. "They had a nice little jump on us,'' New Canaan coach Rich Bulan said. "They really ca…

Schmid will play at Babson College near Boston, while Rusch will attend Bowdoin College near Augusta, Maine. They won't be facing each other in their respective leagues, but could be opponents during the teams' annual Florida trips. "We have different majors and things we want to do,'' Schmid sa…
