Weston Rower Makes Surprising College Choice Weston Rower Makes Surprising College Choice Weston Rower Makes Surprising College Choice
Weston Rower Makes Surprising College Choice Graham Anderson's college choice shocked even his parents. They figured their son, who grew up in Weston, rowing for the Saugatuck Rowing Club in Westport and making only occasional forays into New York, would choose a leafy campus far from the bustle of city streets. Anderson, a gold medal winner at June's USRowing Junior Championships in the 2x with teammate Max Meyer-Bosse, chose Columbia. "My parents weren't expecting that,'' said Graham, a 17-year-old senior at Weston High School. "They were expecting a more rural school, something like Cornell or even Yale, in a city that's not as big…

but GFA Falls Weston's Dan Chase reached 1,000 career points for Greens Farms Academy in Wednesday's 60-52 loss to Hamden Hall in a Fairchester Athletic Association game. Chase, a senior guard, scored 24 points for GFA (2-3), which rallied from a 35-15 halftime deficit to trim the lead to just two. C.J. Smith, Brien Comey, Hunter Eggers and Will Pavlis powered GFA’s second-half surge with the help of great defensive play from Sean Obi. Their tenacious attitude was contagious, and the home crowd at Coyle Gym helped the Dragons rally back and outscore Hamden Hall, 37-18, at one point in the second half. …

to Focus on Soccer A familiar face will be missing from the Staples basketball lineup when the Wreckers open their season at Ridgefield. Point guard Frank Bergonzi, who averaged 12 points a game last season, will bypass his senior year on the court. Bergonzi will play soccer at Colgate University next fall. Fall Short vs. Fairfield Wilton's seventh-grade girls basketball team seemed to be cruising toward its first victory Sunday in a Fairfield County Basketball League game against Fairfield. An untimely dry spell in the fourth quarter cost the team, however, as Fairfield closed the game with a 13-0 run to pull out a 34-24 victory. "I think we got tired toward the end,'' said coach Ken Seegers, who is also an assistant on the girls high school team. "We're throwing a lot at them at this point in the season. We never talked with them about winning games now. Our goal is to be ready to play well in March." Rachel Gordo…
