Greens Farms Falls Despite Obi's 34 Rye Country Day School connected on nine 3-point baskets en route to a 70-59 win over Greens Farms Academy of Westport in a Fairchester Athletic Association game Friday in Rye, N.Y. Sean Obi, a GFA sophomore from Greenwich, scored 34 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Weston’s Dan Chase added 19. But GFA struggled from the perimeter, going 0-for-19 on 3-pointers. “A week ago in a scrimmage against New Canaan they played the exact same combination of defenses against us, and we couldn’t miss,'' coach Doug Scott said. "Tonight was clearly a different story. Sometimes that happens in an away-ga…

as New Coach at GFA
as New Coach at GFA Darien's Doug Scott, who has been coaching basketball for 23 years, is taking his shot at coaching a high school team this year at Greens Farms Academy in Westport. And he's off to a good start. The Dragons posted their first win ever over Brunswick, and lost to a strong St. Luke's team in Fairchester Athletic Association play. Scott took the job over the summer after working last year as an assistant at St. Luke's. "When I was an assistant at St. Luke's, I just fell in love with the league,'' Scott said. He has spent most of the past two decades coaching teams at all levels, from fourth gr…

Greenwich Girls Basketball Falls to Staples Just two days after a strong offensive performance in a 45-41 win over Wilton, Greenwich High's girls basketball struggled to put points on the board in a 33-24 loss to Staples. The loss spoiled the return of coach Danielle Morgan, who returned the team after delivering a baby on Thanksgiving Day. "I saw some good things and some bad things,'' Morgan said. "I think we can improve on our defense and shot selection. That's what we're going to focus on." The game began an hour late because of transportation problems from Greenwich to Westport. The Wreckers seemed more relaxed early, jumping ou…

in Win Over Greenwich The Staples High School girls basketball team does not have a true center. Two of its most experienced players have been lost for the season with injuries, forcing coach Ed Huydic to use just six players Friday against Greenwich as the teams battled in Westport. But the Wreckers play defense better than just about everybody else in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference. That was evident again as the Wreckers improved to 2-0 with a 33-24 victory. "Our defense is the key aspect to our team,'' said senior Nicole Brill, who filled up the stat line with eight points, seven reb…
