Darien Boys Help Basketball Team Win Nutmeg State Gold DARIEN, Conn. -- Five players from Darien helped The United Sons and Daughters win the gold medal in the boys basketball 14-and-under division at the Nutmeg State Games over the weekend. The team was coached by Darien's Doug Scott. The team defeated Lower Naugatuck Valley 61-58 in overtime to win the gold medal. The USAD squad is comprised of rising high school freshman from Fairfield County. Scott is also the coach at Greens Farms Academy in Westport. Wilton Running Club Girl Earns 3rd At National Track Meet WILTON, Conn. – Angela Saidman of the Wilton Running Club finished third Sunday in the 1,500 meters at the USA Track and Field Junior Olympic Track and Field championships in Greensboro, N.C. Saidman competed in the girls 11-12 division and ran 4:56.37. Athing Mu of the Trenton Track Club won in 4:48.58. Sarah Flynn finished second in 4:48.6. There were 58 runners in the race. Westport Rolls To State Title, Plays Friday In Regional WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport Little League won its first state championship over the weekend and begins play in the New England Regional on Friday in Bristol. Westport defeated Coginchaug in the best-of-three state championship series by scores of 8-2 and 9-1. New Canaan's Andrew Campbell Wins Gold At U23 Rowing FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – New Canaan’s Andrew Campbell won a gold medal and Westport’s Max Meyer-Bosse took home silver as members of U.S, crews at the World Rowing Under 23 championships over the weekend in Linz, Austria. Campbell, a former member of Martime Rowing in Norwalk and current student at Harvard, won the first-ever gold medal in the lightweight men’s single sculls.
