Steve Ghossaini Named Danbury Athlete Of The Month DANBURY, Conn. – After losing in the finals last year, Immaculate High School wrestler Steve Ghossaini was determined to return to the state wrestling championships and reach the top step of the podium. Even if he needed to work overtime to do it. Ghossaini, a junior, won the Class L championship at 195 pounds in last month’s state tournament. He was named The Danbury Daily Voice Athlete of the Month for his achievement. He wrestles for the co-op team of Immaculate and Joel Barlow High School in Redding. Tommy Kealy Named Wilton Athlete Of The Month WILTON, Conn. – Wilton High School’s Tommy Kealy was the only swimmer to win two individual races at the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference boys swimming championships. The manner in which he did it was even more remarkable. Kealy, a junior, won the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly at the league championships. Emily Savage Named Weston Athlete Of The Month WESTON, Conn. – Weston High School senior Emily Savage, a pole vaulter, keeps soaring to new heights. Savage, a member of the Weston indoor track and field team, set a state record in pole vaulting last month. She was named The Weston Daily Voice Athlete of the Month for her achievement. Savage’s highest jump this year is 12 feet, 7 inches, which she accomplished in winning the Class S title. She is ranked 12th in the nation. Wilton Twins Have Track Coaches Doing Double Takes WILTON, Conn. – Five sets of twins on the Wilton High School girls and boys indoor track teams had coaches Jim Gerweck and Jeff Gee doing double takes all winter. On the boys side, the multiples are seniors Travis and Spencer Taylor, sophomores Colin and Grant Hussey and freshmen Patrick and Ryan Moore. Record Field Runs In Final Boston Buildup Race NORWALK, Conn. – Daniel Schlich of West Point, N.Y., and Tina Senft-Batoh of Stamford paced a record field Sunday in the Boston Buildup 25-kilometer race in Norwalk. Schlich, 20, won the race in 1:27:27, while Senft-Batoh, 29, paced the women’s field in 1:46:24. There were 258 finishers in the race, which eclipsed the previous record of 252 set last year. Stamford's Tre' Tipton Earns All-Rookie Team At Keene STAMFORD, Conn. – Former King basketball star and Stamford native Tre’ Tipton was named to the all-rookie team by the Little East Conference. He plays at Keene State College in New Hampshire. Tipton moved into the team’s starting lineup with 16 games left in the regular season and averaged five points and two assists. He scored a career-high 14 points against UMass-Boston in December and had 13 points  in a 93-84 win over Eastern Connecticut in February. Tipton was a 1,000-point career scorer at King.
