Darien's Shana Decsi Closes In On Boston Buildup Title DARIEN, Conn. – With one race left in the Boston Buildup Winter Series, Darien’s Shana Decsi finds herself in a surprising spot. The 36-year-old mother of three is leading the race for the overall title. “It’s definitely a surprise,’’ Decsi said. “I wouldn’t have expected that at all.” She finished second in the most recent event in the four-race series, a 20K in Fairfield on Feb. 17. Westport 7th-Grade Boys Basketball Rides Win Streak WESTPORT, Conn. – The Westport PAL seventh-grade boys basketball team finished the regular season on a nine-game winning streak as it enters the Fairfield County Basketball League playoffs. After losing its first eight games of the season, the team coached by Vinnie Rissolo and Andrew Strauss rallied to finish 12-10 overall and 10-2 in the league. Stamford's Jean-Guillaume Earns Top Conference Honor STAMFORD, Conn. – Stamford’s Eric Jean-Guillaume, a Trinity Catholic High School grad and a senior at Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire, was named the men’s basketball Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year for the second straight time on Thursday. Jean-Guillaume is just the second player in conference history to receive the award in consecutive seasons. Jean-Guillaume averaged 16.4 points, 3.5 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game. Westport 5th-Grade Girls Take Perfect Mark Into Playoffs WESTPORT, Conn. – The Westport PAL fifth-grade girls basketball team will take an 18-0 record into the Fairfield County Basketball League playoffs beginning Friday in Weston. Westport will meet Shelton in its opening game of the tournament at 6:20 p.m. at Weston Middle School. Westport went 11-0 in league games and 7-0 in non-league contests. Easton's Carson LiCastri Pins Down State Wrestling Title EASTON, Conn. – Carson LiCastri of Easton made quick work of his bracket to win the state title this past weekend in the Connecticut Kids State Wrestling Championships in New Haven. LiCastri captured the novice 100-pound weight division, winning three matches in less than two minutes of wrestling. LiCastri pinned his opponent in the finals, Alexander Hernandez of Plainville, in 31 seconds. He won his earlier matches with pins in 33 and 45 seconds. Norwalk Mad Bull Wrestler Koy Price Wins State Crown NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk Mad Bulls wrestler Koy Price won a state championship and finished the season undefeated to lead a strong showing by the club’s boys at the Connecticut Kids State Championships Sunday in New Haven. Youth Wrestling Clinics Planned At Danbury Sports Dome DANBURY, Conn. -- Registration is open for the Beast Training Wrestling Club, which begins April 15 at the Danbury Sports Dome. The Beast Training Wrestling Club will include 41 sessions for wrestlers in first through eighth grades and they will be separated into two divisions. The clinics run through July 18.
