Greens Farms Boys Basketball Sets High Goals WESTPORT, Conn. – Greens Farms Academy’s boys basketball won 15 straight games heading into the postseason last winter. The consecutive losses in the first round of the Fairchester Athletic Association and the New England Prep School tournaments are providing the motivation for the Dragons as they enter a new season. Greens Farms finished 18-5 last year, and was ranked fourth in their class among New England prep schools. Wilton Runner Jumps On Fast Track To Success STAMFORD, Conn. – A little more than a year after picking up distance running, Megan Rule will compete in a national meet Saturday in New Mexico as the the Stamford High sophomore jumps on the sport’s fast track. Rule will race in the National Junior Olympic cross country championships at Balloon Fiesta Park in Albuquerque in the Intermediate Girls division. Closure Of Norwalk Y Throws Popular Classes For A Spin NORWALK, Conn. – Joyce Quinlan and Colleen O’Brien have been teaching Spinning classes for a combined 15 years at the Norwalk YMCA. Stamford's Cortese Earns College Football Honor STAMFORD, Conn. – Trinity Catholic grad Vinny Cortese, a senior at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., was named Tuesday to the D3Football.com All-South Region Team. Cortese was named a third-team All-Region selection after totaling 47 tackles this season. He also earned first-team all-conference honors in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Cortese had 9.5 tackles for a loss and 5.5 sacks. He finished 36th in the conference in tackles, fourth in sacks and eighth in tackles for a loss. He had two games with eight tackles. Prospects Bright For New Canaan Football NEW CANAAN, Conn. – For the first time since 2005 New Canaan’s football team won't be playing in a state championship game but, given their returning cast and history, it wouldn't be surprising if that's merely a one-year aberration. The Rams’ season ended Sunday with a 27-21 loss to Windsor in the Class L semifinals. Norwalk Girls Jump At Chance To Cheer In Florida NORWALK, Conn. – Thirty-two Norwalk girls are jumping at the chance to go Florida this week. They will also dance, flip and cheer as they head to Kissimmee for the American Youth Football cheerleading championships. The Norwalk Packers cheerleaders, who are in grades 6 to 8, have been practicing as many as five days a week since August. Weston Football Runs Out Of 4th Quarter Magic WESTON, Conn. – Weston High’s football team ran out of fourth quarter magic Sunday night in the semifinals of the Class M playoffs, but it was not for lack of effort. Second-seeded Berlin (11-1) beat the Trojans, 21-7, at Bunnell High School in Stratford. The Redcoats advance to the title game Friday or Saturday against No. 4 Hillhouse. New Canaan Football Falls In State Semis NEW CANAAN, Conn. – New Canaan’s football team fought to the final snap Sunday before its run of five straight appearances in state championship games ended with a 27-21 loss to Windsor in the Class L semifinals at Bunnell High School. The sixth-seeded Rams (8-3) trailed from the first quarter against No. 2 Windsor, a team they defeated in last year’s semifinals.
