Rejuvenated New Canaan Reaches Football Semis NEW CANAAN, Conn. – For the first time since 2001, the New Canaan High School football team ended its regular season with a loss when it fell to Darien High School in their annual Thanksgiving Day contest. With less than a week to put that setback behind them, the Rams had to re-group for Wednesday’s Class M playoff game. The resilient Rams did just that, scoring 16 fourth-quarter points to get past Avon High School, 16-7, in a first-round contest on Wednesday. Norwalk Freshman Making Impact On UConn Soccer NORWALK, Conn. – It's rare for a freshman to get significant minutes in college competition but Norwalk’s Nick Zuniga is not only getting significant playing time for the University of Connecticut men’s soccer team, he is making a dramatic impact. Zuniga, a midfielder who played at Norwalk High, scored the game-winning goal for the Huskies in a 2-1 win over New Mexico in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Norwalk Football Players Compete For Regional Team FAIRIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Young football players from Norwalk, Stamford, Greenwich and New Canaan will be among the participants in the Football University regional championship beginning Saturday at Brunswick School in Greenwich. Wilton Women Train Together, Run In Philly Marathon WILTON, Conn. – Three Wilton women made the most of their training for the New York City Marathon when they instead ran in the Philadelphia race Nov. 20. Kate Denious and Kacky Theoharides set personal bests, while Lynn DiNanno covered the 26.2 mile distance for the first time in the Philadelphia Marathon. The women had been registered for the New York Marathon. When that race was canceled after Hurricane Sandy, they debated their options before deciding to head to Philly for the race. New Canaan's Whirlwind Divers Shine In Opening Meet NEW CANAAN, Conn. – The New Canaan-based Whirlwind Diving team got off to a good start for the season by grabbing seven first-place medals in the Lord of the Boards meet in Bridgewater, N.J. Whirlwind also had seven runner-up medals and two third-place finishes in the 19 Junior Olympic events. In all, 19 Whirlwind divers placed in the top 10. Divers from New Canaan led Whirlwind.
