Girls From Westport Crew 2nd At Boston Regatta WESTPORT, Conn. – Saugatuck Rowing’s Louisa Freeman and Jo Gurman, who took third in June at the U.S. Youth Nationals, continued to gain national attention Sunday with a second-place finish at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston. The runner-up finish was one of several strong performances for Saugatuck in one of the most prestigious East Coast regattas of the fall season. Greenwich Woman 2nd At World Triathlon Race FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Greenwich’s Karen Newman and Stamford’s Megan Kelly proved during the summer they were among the top triathletes in their age groups in the United States. Last weekend in New Zealand, the women proved they are among the best in the world. Newman, a breast cancer survivor, continued her remarkable journey with a second place finish in her 50-54 age group in the sprint distance event at the Barfoot & Thompson World Triathlon Grand Final. Weston 8th-Grade Football Team Caps Stays Unbeaten WESTON, Conn. – The Weston eighth-grade football team finished its regular season in fine style. Now, the young Trojans will see if they can stay undefeated in the Fairfield County Football League playoffs. Weston defeated New Canaan, 22-0, to finish the  regular season 8-0. Weston is seeded second for the league playoffs, which begin this weekend. Darien Blue (8-0) earned the top seed via a coin flip. Norwalk Cheer Girls Win League Crown NORWALK, Conn. – Girls from the Norwalk Junior Football and Cheer team won the Colonial League championship Sunday in their division. The team is sponsored by Norwalk Athletic Association. Girls ages 11-13 took home Grand Champion honors in Division 13 at the competition at New Milford High School. Wilton Woman Helps Virginia To 3rd at Top Regatta WILTON, Conn. – Wilton’s Molly Frear, a senior coxswain at the University of Virginia, helped the Cavaliers finish third Sunday in the championship eight race at the Head of the Charles in Boston.
