Norwalk Riptide Takes 2nd In League Playoffs NORWALK, Conn. The Norwalk 16U Riptide softball team completed its season last weekend with a second-place finish at the Fairfield County Fastpitch Softball League year-end tournament in Ridgefield. The weekend before, Riptide placed third at the Babe Ruth 16U New England Regional Tournament in Lancaster, N.H. The New England tournament was the weekend of the 21st, the Fairfield County tournament was July 28-29. In pool play Saturday, Riptide bested Xplosion Blue 4-3 and then fell to Xplosion Red 7-3 before rains wiping out its third pool play game. On Sunday, Riptide faced the Stamford …

Stamford Softball Girls Work For Series Funds STAMFORD, Conn. The World Series-bound Stamford Babe Ruth 12-and-under softball All-Stars will host a fund-raiser Monday at the Parkway Diner on High Ridge Road from 5-9 p.m. to help cover costs for their trip. Stamford leaves on Thursday to play in Alachua, Fla., in the World Series. The girls will be working at the diner as wait staff, and tips will be used to help the team pay for the trip. ETON, England. -- We awoke early this morning at 6 a.m. because we did not know what to expect in terms of crowds or security checks at the race course. Stamford Junior Legion Begins State Title Quest STAMFORD, Conn. The Stamford American Legion Junior team reached the state championship game last year before losing. On Sunday, manager Scott Giorgi and his squad begin the journey they hope takes them to the top of the mountain this summer. Fairfield County Has Plenty Of Races This Weekend FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. Whether its running, riding or both, the calendar is crowded again this weekend for Fairfield County recreational athletes. There are road races in Norwalk and Westport, the Connecticut Challenge bike ride in Westport and a sprint triathlon in Greenwich. New Canaan Cal Ripken Team Stays Alive NEW CANAAN, Conn. The epic battles between New Canaan and Newtown in the New England Cal Ripken 12-year-old tournament took another wild twist Thursday. On Friday, the teams will meet once again with a World Series berth on the line. Justin Stemermans RBI single in the 11th inning snapped an 8-8 tie and New Canaan went on to win, 9-8, in the championship round. Cyclists To Ride Fairfield County Roads For Cancer FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. The Fairfield County cycling community shifts into high gear Saturday when the Connecticut Challenge rolls out from the Fairfield County Hunt Club in Westport. Nearly 1,100 cyclists are expected to begin the ride, which consists of loops of 10, 25, 50, 75 and 100 miles. The ride raises money for cancer survivorship programs.
