Fairfield Softball Team Sets High Standard FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield lost in the semifinals of the East Regional last week, but the four-year run by the girls have set a standard that future teams will have a hard time duplicating. Fairfield finished 16-2 in postseason play this summer. Over the last four years, primarily the same cast of girls has compiled a 60-8 record. They have collected Little League banners galore, including three New England championships as well as four titles in District 2, Section 1 and Connecticut. Norwalk Babe Ruth 14s Capture League Crown NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk Babe Ruth 14-and-under Babe Ruth team won the Interstate 84 championship Saturday by beating Danbury, 8-1. Norwalk went 12-3-1 during the regular season and finished undefeated in its final six regular season games to earn the top seed for the playoffs. Team members include Tyler McMillian, P.J. Morin, B.J. Buckle, Michael Boguski, Nathaniel Lewis, Sean Geercken, Brian Beaumonte, Matt Salata, Angel Nieves, Matt Crowley, Luke Schwartz, Alex Barone, Joe Cranston and Alex Kydes. Stamford Gymnasts Watch U.S. Women Win Gold STAMFORD, Conn. – Girls at Arena Gymnastics in Stamford transitioned from athletes to spectators Tuesday to watch the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team perform at the Summer Olympics. The reprieve from the workout was worth it for the Arena girls, who watched the United States win its first gold medal in 16 years in women’s gymnastics. Wilton Wahoo Swimmers 2nd at YMCA Nationals WILTON, Conn. – The Wilton Wahoos finished second in the combined team total at the YMCA Long Course Championships in Atlanta. The Wahoos finished with 958 points, trailing only Middle Tyger YMCA of Duncan, S.C. Wilton also finished second in the men’s and women’s team totals. Darien Boys Take Top Spots At Diving Championships NORWALK, Conn. – Steven Kreuch led a clean sweep of the 1-meter board by divers from Darien clubs at Monday’s Fairfield County Swimming League 14-and-under championships at Shorehaven Country Club in Norwalk.
