Darien Girls Track Takes Second in Class L Track DARIEN, Conn. – Darien girls won two events to lead the Blue Wave to a second place finish Tuesday at the Class L track and field championships at Middletown High School. Windsor won the girls meet with 110 points, followed by Darien with 72. Windsor also won the boys meet, while Darien was fourth. Sophomore Leah Hotchkiss won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 2 inches. Teammate Catherine Lacy, another sophomore, took second and cleared the same height. Weston's Emily Savage Wins Two State Track Events WESTON, Conn. – Weston junior Emily Savage won two events to lead the Trojans to a fourth-place finish Tuesday at the Class M outdoor track and field championships at Willowbrook Park in New Britain. The Weston girls finished with 61.5 points. Tolland won with 82, followed by Nonnewaug with 75 and Montville with 63. Weston’s boys finished 10th with 21.5 points. Savage picked up 20 points for Weston with her two victories. Drive in Darien Nets 300 Packages for Soldiers DARIEN, Conn. – Operation Darien Little League Cares packed and shipped more than 300 boxes to send as care packages to U.S. soldiers after a collection drive over Memorial Day weekend. “It had to be our best year yet in terms of quality and quantity of items. It really was great to see so many people, young and old, to help in so many different ways,’’ said Katie Farren, the Darien High School junior who coordinates the drive. This is the fifth year Darien Little League has collected items for solders. The league has sent packages to more than 1,300 soldiers since 2008.

New Canaan Crew Sends 9 Teams to Nationals NEW CANAAN, Conn. — New Canaan Crew dominated the men's quad sculling event at the Northeast Regional Regatta in Worcester, Mass., as Peter Tortora, Graham Mink, Alex Buck and Jonathon Rosow crushed the competition to win the gold medal. Weston U12 Boys' Soccer Team Wins Newtown Tourney WESTON, Conn. -- The Weston U12 Boys Blue team went undefeated to win their age bracket in the 30th Annual Newtown Kickoff Memorial Day Tournament. Winning all of their games during the weekend, the boys completed their final match with a 2-0 victory Sunday afternoon against Bethel.  This team also has reached the quarterfinals of the Connecticut Cup soccer tournament and will play Saturday in Weston against New Milford. Game time is 3 p.m. at Morehouse Farm Park. Weston defeated Manchester, 4-2, and Avon, 3-1, in its two previous Connecticut Cup games.
