Staples Girls Track Is 9-0 After 2 Wins WESTPORT, Conn. Staples girls track team improved to 9-0 Monday with a sweep of New Canaan and Harding. The Wreckers defeated the Rams, 93-52, and blanked Harding, 142-0. Staples enters its final meet of the season Monday against Norwalk and Stamford looking to go undefeated in the regular season. The team will be one of the contenders for the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championship in the league meet on May 22 at Danbury. Staples competed at the Middletown Invitational on Saturday, and pole vaulter Lexie Schachne came away with a meet record in winning the pole …

Wilton Blue 5th-Grade Boys Lacrosse Drops Pair WILTON, Conn. -- The Wilton Blue fifth-grade boys lacrosse team played tough but dropped a doubleheader against teams from New Canaan. New Canaan Red won the opener, 12-3. Trailing 2-0, Tyler Previte scored for Wilton on a terrific pass from Patrick Ciquera. Outstanding goaltending from Andrew Calabrese and tenacious defense from Aaron Kleeman, Drew Herlyn, and Joey Seaman kept Wilton in the game for much of the first half. Norwalk-Based Crews Strike Gold in State Regatta NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk-based Connecticut Boat Club scored big in The Gunnerys annual Founders Day rowing regatta Sunday on Lake Waramaug. More than 20 teams competed, mostly from prep schools in New England, with one team from Ohio. One of the race organizers called conditions, The best weather in the 53-year-history of the annual Founders Day Regatta. With a race format of all 4+s racing a distance of 1500 meters, CBC's varsity and novice boats placed first or second in every event. Terzian Wins Thriller in Norwalk Ripken League NORWALK, Conn. -- Terzian Trucking edged The Batters Box, 1-0, in a pitchers duel between two of the top hurlers in the Norwalk Cal Ripken Baseball League. Chris Druin doubled home Mike Claps with two outs in the bottom of the sixth for the winning run. Andrew Matthews shut out The Batters Box on just one hit, striking out 10 and walking four. Here are highlights from recent Major Division games in the North Stamford Little League: Collin Callahan, Anthony Socci and Jordan Trief combined to pitch a two-hit shutout for County TV in a 10-0 win over Instant Replay. New Canaan Crew Wins 5 Golds at N.J. Regatta NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- New Canaan Crew teams won five races at the Cooper Cup Regatta recently in Cherry Hill, N.J., and won 12 medals with 18 entries in novice, junior varsity and varsity events. Peter Tortora, Graham Mink, Alex Buck and Jonathon Rosow dominated in the Mens Varsity Quad event, wining the final by almost 18 seconds. Rain Doesn't Dampen Mood of Longshore Women WESTPORT, Conn. -- The Longshore Women's Golf Association's opening day tournament was cancelled due to heavy rain, but the luncheon scheduled at Rizuttos was well attended and a huge success. The association has many new members this year. President Linda Clair had everyone in the room introduce themselves. Although the golf was rained out, the women had an enjoyable afternoon of seeing old friends and making new friends. The group is in its 52nd season. Fairfield County Hoop Team Wins Tourney in N.Y. FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. The Connecticut Premier Hoops All Star U-13 basketball team rolled into the Westchester Elite's Spring Hardwood Classic this past weekend and defeated four New York teams to take the tourney title. The team includes players from Darien, Fairfield, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Westport and Weston. Premier Hoops hit the century mark in a 100-20 crunching of Playmakers Gold in its first game.
