Stamford 6th-Graders Improve to 9-3 STAMFORD, Conn. – The Stamford Shock sixth-grade boys basketball team improved to 9-3 with a recent string of victories. The team also suffered its first losses of the season en route to a second-place finish in a holiday tournament in Norwalk. Stamford beat New Fairfield, 57-36, as Jahmani Thornton scored 13 points. He also had double digits in rebounds. Kevin Costello scored 12 points, taking advantage of nice ball distribution by the Shock's guards to convert scoring opportunities. Weston 6th-Graders Snare First Victory WESTON, Conn. – The Weston Blue sixth-grade boys basketball team picked up its first victory of the season Saturday, 24-23, over New Canaan Red in a Fairfield County Basketball League game. Weston won with a basket inside the final minute. The team also tied its season-high for most points scored in a game. Date Set for Stamford KIC IT Triathlon STAMFORD, Conn. — The fifth annual Stamford KIC IT Triathlon will be run on Sunday, July 1. It follows a children's triathlon on Saturday, June 30. Both events benefit Kids in Crisis, a free emergency shelter and 24-hour crisis counseling center for Fairfield County children and families. Athletes can register online. The children's triathlon, which debuted last year, will feature events for children ages 7-10 and 11-13. Younger children will swim 50 meters, pedal a 2-mile bike course and run a half-mile. Zeus Swim Team Hosts Spinola Invitational NORWALK, Conn. – The Zeus Swim Team of Norwalk hosted the ninth annual Pat Spinola Invitational swim meet last weekend at Norwalk High School. Swimmers from Greenwich, Stamford and Fairfield were among the teams that competed in the meet, which started with an 8-and-under competition Friday night. The meet, named after the former athletic director at Norwalk High, featured more than 500 swimmers. Zeus will also host the second annual Marie Corridon-Mortell Invitational on Feb 4. The meet is named after the Olympic gold medalist and Norwalk native.

Fairfield 8th-Grade Basketball Team Riding High FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Dwight Vaughn has been coaching the players on the eighth-grade Fairfield Police Athletic League for several years. Although the team has been a consistent winner, the squad has really taken flight this year in the Fairfield County Basketball League. Fairfield handed Stamford its first league loss Saturday, 57-40. Fairfield also defeated Norwalk, 57-53, and Easton, 97-48, in a busy weekend of basketball.
