Wildcats Cheerleaders Win Regional Title WESTON, Conn. – The Aspetuck Wildcats 13-and-under cheerleading team won the New England championship and will compete in the American Youth Football national championships this weekend in Orlando. The team consists of girls from Weston, Easton and Redding. The 13-year-old team won its third straight national championship last year. Aspetuck teams have won eight national titles since 2005.

Darien Athletes Earn All-League Honors DARIEN, Conn. – Three Darien High School field hockey players earned first team honors in selections announced by the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference. Kat Huber, Julia Cobb and Galen Rohn earned first team honors for the Blue Wave, which finished undefeated during the league regular season. Lilly Cassidy won All-East honors. Staples Athletes Earn All-Conference Honors WESTPORT, Conn. – Staples High School placed three players on the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference all-league boys soccer team. Goalie James Hickok, Taylor McNair and Jake Malowitz were named first team for the Wreckers. Alex Tonsberg, Ben Root and Dylan Evans were named to the All-East team. Norwalk Athletes Earn All-League Honors NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk placed three players on the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference’s boys soccer first team in selections recently announced by the league. Nick Zuniga, Andrew Melitsanopoulos and Mike Broncati were named to the first team for the Bears, who lost just once in 16 league games during the fall. New Canaan 6th Graders Fall to Norwalk NEW CANAAN, Conn. – New Canaan’s sixth grade Red boys basketball team opened its season with a 35-11 loss to Norwalk in the Fairfield County Basketball League. Nick Potter, Diego Ospina, Zach Miller and Matty Knight played well defensively for New Canaan. Coaches, Rowers Honored at Convention NORWALK, Conn. – Rowers and coaches from Fairfield County were honored Saturday at USRowing’s annual convention in Hartford. Maritime Rowing Club coaches Yan and Olga Vengerovskiy were honored with the John J. Carlin Service Award. New Canaan’s Andrew Campbell was honored as USRowing’s Man of the Year. Campbell was a former rower for New Canaan crew, and was coached by Yan Vengerovskiy. Campbell is taking the year off from his studies at Harvard University to try for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team.
