Darien Rower Wins Gold at Masters Regatta DARIEN, Conn. – Darien rower Klaas ten Broeke, who competes out of the Norwalk River Rowing Association, and his fellow oarsmen became world champions in the World Masters Rowing Regatta held in Poznan, Poland, earlier this fall. They won a gold medal in the Men’s 8 crew in the 80 years plus category. The regatta featured rowers from the U.S., the Netherlands, Norway and Poland. Klaas began his rowing career in 1949 at the University of Delft in the Netherlands and has continued his passion for rowing with the Norwalk River Rowing Association. Everton U12s Win Regional Soccer Title NORWALK, Conn. – The Everton America CT boys U12 regional team rounded off a fantastic fall season recently with two wins in the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association Premier League. Everton won the association’s Premier League Red Division, finishing 9-0 and allowing just three goals in nine games. The team includes players from Norwalk, Weston, Stamford, Wilton, Darien, Fairfield and New Canaan. Sacred Heart Basketball Nipped by Yale FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Stamford’s Chris Evans scored a season-high 16 points Monday for Sacred Heart University as it dropped a non-league game to Yale, 73-71, at the Pitt Center. Norwalk’s Evan Kelley added six points for the Pioneers (5-5). Yale (6-2) won its fourth straight and rallied after falling behind 20-7. Norwalk Comes Up a Winner, Even in Defeat NORWALK, Conn. – Sometimes a team can be a winner even when the scoreboard says otherwise. And the converse can also be true. Both apply to Saturday’s Class LL football semifinal, where Norwalk High lost to Xavier, 55-14.
