Former Stamford Hoop Star Wins Conference Honor STAMFORD, Conn. — Emmanuel College’s Fiona O'Dwyer, a junior from Stamford, was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week last week. O'Dwyer, who played at Stamford High, opened up the 2011-12 season by averaging 23 points, 14.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists over the Saints' two games in the 28th Annual Emmanuel College Invitational Tournament. O’Dwyer kicked off the year with a game-high 18 points and nine boards in a one-point loss to Heidelberg University on Nov. 19. Mid-Race Fall Doesn't Derail Rog's Run FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield Prep runner Connor Rog landed one of the 40 exclusive spots in next month’s Foot Locker National Cross Country national championships finals in San Diego. But getting there was no smooth trip. Rog, a senior, finished 10th in Saturday’s Northeast Regional at Sunken Meadow State Park on Long Island in Kings Park, N.Y. The top 10 from four regions advance to the national championship race. What made Rog’s journey harrowing was a fall just more than a mile into the race. Stamford Woman Takes 2nd in Pequot Race STAMFORD, Conn. – Stamford’s Sharon Lemberger finished second among women in the Pequot Runners Thanksgiving Day 5-mile race Thursday in Fairfield. Lemberger ran 29:16 and finished as the runner-up to Easton’s Meredith Anand, who ran 28:49. There were 4,223 finishers in the race, which was run under ideal conditions on a fast, flat course in Southport. Cameron Marantz of Philadelphia won the race in 25:05. Stamford’s Anatolie Vartosu won the men’s 40-49 age group, running 28:34. Matthew Cross, of Stamford, was fifth in the same age division. Complete results are available online.

Norwalk Runner 13th in Pequot Road Race NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk’s Yee-Ning Cheng finished 13th overall in a field of more than 4,000 finishers at the Pequot Runners Thanksgiving Day 5-mile road race Thursday in Fairfield. Cheng ran 27:50 to lead Norwalk runners across the line. He was third in the 20-29 age group. Cameron, of Philadelphia, won the race in 25:05. Meredith Anand, of Easton, led the women in 28:49. There were 4,223 finishers in the race. Gus Elliott, of Rowaytown, was third among men 30-39, and Norwalk's Tim Downs was fifth in the same age group. Complete results are available online.

County Runners Compete in Pequot Race FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Cameron Marantz, of Philadelphia, and Meredith Anand, of Easton, were the men’s and women’s winners in the Pequot Runners 5-mile road race Thursday in Fairfield. Marantz, 24, flew around the course in 25:05 in ideal running conditions on a flat, fast course that began at the Wakeman Boys and Girls Club in Southport. Anand finished overall in 28:49. Runners Flock to Fairfield's Pequot Race FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Cameron Marantz, of Philadelphia, and Meredith Anand, of Easton, won the men’s and women’s divisions of Fairfield's Pequot Runners 5-mile Thanksgiving Day road race. There were 4,233 finishers in the race that began at the Wakeman Boys and Girls Club in Southport.  Marantz won in 25:25 on a picture-perfect morning for running on one of the county’s fastest courses.
