Staples Girls Soccer Falls in Penalty Kicks WESTPORT, Conn. ? Top-seeded Glastonbury defeated 20th-seeded Staples in penalty kicks in Saturday’s semifinals of the Class LL girls soccer tournament. Glastonbury will meet Trumbull for the state championship next weekend. Staples and Glastonbury were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation. Glastonbury won on penalty kicks, 4-1. Abbey Lake scored with 23:50 left to give the Wreckers (11-6-3) a 1-0 lead. Kayla Oroczo tied it for Glastonbury with just over 14 minutes remaining. Norwalk Soccer Falls to Trumbull NORWALK, Conn. – Trumbull scored two goals within the first seven minutes and went on to defeat Norwalk, 3-1, in the semifinals of the Class LL boys soccer tournament Saturday at West Haven High School. Trumbull will play for the state championship next weekend against top-seeded Pomperaug. The third-seeded Bears finish the season 16-3-2. Keith Bond and Zach Chase scored the early goals for the Golden Eagles (18-1-4). Norwalk crept closer on a goal by Nick Zuniga in the 55th minute. Norwalk-Based Soccer Team Wins New Jersey Tourney NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk-based Everton America under-13 regional boys soccer team won the MAPS Cup 2011 in Fort Dix, N.J., last weekend, beating an elite field that consisted of the 16 highest ranked teams in Region 1 of U.S. soccer.
