Young Fairfield Runners Take State Crowns FAIRFIELD, Conn. Teams from Fairfield middle schools won two age groups and finished second in another Sunday at the Connecticut Junior Olympic cross country state championships at White Arboratium in Litchfield. Teams from Fairfield Woods and Tomlinson combined to compete as the Fairfield Woods Running Club. They won the championship in the Midget Girls (ages 11-12) and Midget Boys divisions. Norwalk, Stamford Players Help Sacred Heart Go 2-0 FAIRFIELD, Conn. Norwalks Evan Kelley and Stamfords Chris Evans scored 11 points apiece as Sacred Heart Universitys basketball team improved to 2-0 Tuesday with a 74-63 win over Stony Brook. Kelley and Evans, both sophomores, were in the starting lineup for the Pioneers. Kelley had four assists and three steals in 25 minutes and was 8-for-11 from the foul line. Evans shot 5-for-7 from the field in 23 minutes of playing time and had two assists and one steal. He also committed four turnovers. New Canaan Swimmer Nominated for Olympic Team NEW CANAAN, Conn. Megan Hansley of New Canaan has been nominated for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Synchronized Swimming team, it was announced Tuesday night. The roster is subject to approval by the U.S. Olympic Committee and qualification for next years Olympic Games in London. Emma Baranski of Hamden, who trains with the New Canaan Aquianas synchronized swimming team, has been named to the U.S. Junior National training squad. Weston Girls Win State Swimming Title in Squeaker WESTON, Conn. Olivia Clark won the 100 breaststroke and Westons girls swimming team won its second straight Class S state championship Tuesday night with a two-point victory over Lauralton Hall of Milford. The Trojans finished with 604 points, Lauralton Hall with 602. St. Joseph of Trumbull was third with 422. The meet was held at Wesleyan University in Middletown. Clarks victory in the penultimate event was particularly critical for the Trojans. She earned 30 points for the team and beat two Lauralton swimmers, who placed third and fourth. Skyliners Make Impressive Medal Haul at First Meet FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. All the teams finished with medals as seven of the eight Skyliners synchronized skating lines competed at the Thanksgiving Classic in Plymouth, Mass., this past Saturday. The teams brought home six gold medals, one silver and one bronze. Its a season opening reminiscent of last year, which was the Skyliners most successful year yet. Weston U12 Blue Soccer Celebrates Big Season WESTON, Conn. The Weston U12 Blue travel soccer team had an impressive run in the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association Connecticut Cup, making it to the final four in a bracket of 42 teams from around the state. The team defeated Westport Blue (3-0), Wethersfield Revolution (6-0), and Ridgefield Black (4-2) before falling in the semifinals to West Hartford TNT, who ultimately claimed the Cup. The team had a strong showing in the association's Southwest District, too, losing just one regular season league game. League playoffs were canceled after the October snowstorm. Sacred Heart Plays Home Opener FAIRFIELD, Conn. The Sacred Heart University men's basketball team plays its season opener Tuesday night when it hosts Stony Brook at 7 p.m. at the Pitt Center. Norwalk 4th-Graders Win State Football Title NORWALK, Conn. For the first time in five years, a Norwalk youth football team has won a state championship. The fourth-grade Packers from the Norwalk Youth Football League are hoping their run does not end there. The Packers routed Bristol, 25-0, on Sunday in the state championship game at Shelton High School. Darien Runners Honored at All-State Dinner DARIEN, Conn. ? Darien High School's Michael Johnston, Charlie Baird and Michael Coe were honored by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association for making the 2011 All-State cross country team in the Class L division. The Blue Wave runners were recognized for their accomplishments at the 2011 All-State Cross Country Banquet held on Monday at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington. This is the first time in Darien history that three Darien boys made the All-State cross country squad in the same year.

Darien Field Hockey Survives in Overtime DARIEN, Conn. Dariens field hockey team knocked off Guilford, 2-1, in overtime to reach the semifinals of the Class M tournament Monday. Lilly Cassidy and Lexi Perticone scored for Darien, which will meet Wilton in Wednesdays semifinals. Top-seeded Darien (19-1) is seeking its fifth straight state championship.
