Fairfield Runners Win State Cross Country Titles FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield Prep won the boys Class LL championship while Connor Rog won the individual title in Saturday’s state championships at Wickham Park in Manchester. Fairfield Warde’s Harry Warnick won the Class L individual title. Fairfield Warde’s girls team placed fifth in the Class L team championship. Rog, a senior, won his second straight Class LL title in a blistering 15:50 for the 5-kilometer course. Darien Boys Win State Cross Country Title DARIEN, Conn. – Darien’s boys cross country team won the Class L championship Saturday at Wickham Park in Manchester. The Blue Wave placed its top five runners in the top 15 to capture its second state title in three years. Darien, which won the Class MM title in 2009, totaled 46 points to easily outdistance second place Naugatuck, which finished with 86. He stuck by his decision, even though it didn’t work out. Ridgefield edged the Senators, 14-13, dropping them to 3-4 overall. Field Hockey Playoffs Switched to Sunday FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Saturday's field hockey playoffs have been postponed due to the weather. The quarterfinals will now be played Sunday at Brien McMahon High School. No. 5 Stamford meets fourth-seeded Staples at 1 p.m. At 3 p.m., No. 6 New Canaan meets No. 3 Norwalk. No. 7 Fairfield Ludlowe meets No. 2 Wilton at 5 p.m., and No. 1 Darien plays No. 8 Westhill at 7 p.m. The winners advance to Wednesday’s semifinals at Dunning Field in New Canaan. The final is scheduled for Nov. 4, at Brien McMahon at 4 p.m.

Westport Girls Help St. Joseph Earn Top Seed WESTPORT, Conn. – Two girls from Westport have helped the St. Joseph High School girls soccer team earn the No. 1 seed for the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference tournament. Sophomore Sabrina Toole and Julia Marino, a freshman, have played key roles as the Cadets compiled a 14-1-1 regular season record. St. Joseph will host Trumbull in the first round of the playoffs on Saturday. The game time has not yet been announced. Saturday’s winner advances to the semifinals Tuesday at Wilton High School. The girls championship is Nov. 3 at Norwalk High School.

Staples Girls Win But Miss League Playoffs WESTPORT, Conn. – The Staples girls soccer team won its final regular season game with a 4-0 victory over Stamford on Thursday. The victory was not enough to secure a playoff berth in the league tournament with Trumbull tying Westhill to earn the final spot. Staples, 8-5-3, will now turn its attention to the Class LL state tournament. Abbey Lake scored two goals to lead the Wreckers in Thursday’s victory. Top Seeds Set for Youth Football Playoffs FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Two teams from New Canaan and Wilton have earned top seeds for the Fairfield County Football League playoffs, which begin this weekend. Teams from Darien and Fairfield are also among the top seeds in the league for players in grades 3-8.
