Players for the Huskies wore pink jerseys provided by team mom Patty LeFort. Fairfield Giants Pee Wee Teams Fall FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield Giants Junior Pee Wee teams lost to Stratford and Hartford in games last weekend in the Southern Connecticut Pop Warner Football Conference. The Stratford Redskins topped Junior Pee Wee 1, 19-7, and the Hartford Hurricanes blanked the Junior Pee Wee 2s, 27-0. Against Hartford, the Giants recovered two first-half fumbles but were unable to capitalize and turn the mistakes into points. Norwalk Field Hockey Blanks McMahon NORWALK, Conn. – Katie Schmidt and Christine Mace scored goals as Norwalk’s field hockey team defeated Brien McMahon, 2-0, Tuesday in a Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference game. Schmidt also had an assist for the Bears, now 12-1-1 overall and 10-2-1 in the FCIAC. Goalie Shannon O’Malley made three saves, while Lily DeRossi stopped eight shots for McMahon (6-6-3, 4-6-2). Norwalk is currently seeded third for the upcoming league playoffs, which began Saturday at Brien McMahon.

Lake's Hat Trick Helps Staples Girls Roll WESTPORT, Conn. – Abbey Lake scored three goals as the Staples girls soccer team defeated Brien McMahon, 4-1, to keep its hopes alive for a Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference playoff berth. Turner Block also scored for Staples, whose record now stands at 7-5-3. The Wreckers play their regular-season finale Thursday against Stamford. They need a victory and help to reach the league playoffs for the second straight year. Westhill must defeat Trumbull or Wilton defeat Darien for Staples to secure a playoff berth. Goalie Jesse Ambrose made five saves for the Wreckers.

Tryouts Planned for Norwalk Youth Basketball NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk Youth Basketball Association will hold tryouts for boys basketball players Wednesday, Oct. 26,  at West Rocks and Roton Middle Schools. Fifth and sixth grade boys will try out at West Rocks on Wednesday. Registration begins at 6 p.m., and tryouts begin at 6:30. Tryouts move to Roton on Friday, Oct. 28. A victory at the Head of the Charles in the Youth Women’s 4+ surprised Trond and the rest of the CBC coaching staff. The team of Meg Galloway, Deirdre Fitzpatrick, Victoria Babchak, India Knight and coxswain Ali Hornung won the race in 18:51.34.
