Pitcher Leads O'Neill's to Norwalk Women's Title NORWALK, Conn. — O'Neill's Pub pitcher Julie Brzezinski threw a rare slow-pitch softball shutout Thursday as her team captured the Norwalk Recreation and Parks women's league championship with a 6-0 victory over Preferred Printing. O'Neill's won its second straight league title with the victory at Calf Pasture Beach. Brzezinski, who also got the win in last year's championship game, was at her best in the final games of the playoffs, as O'Neill's beat Partner's Café, 2-1, in the semifinals. Fairfield Mighty Mites Pop Park City FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield Giants Mighty Mite Junior team stopped the Park City Panthers 18-6 last weekend in a Southern Connecticut Pop Warner League football game. Nick Morris, Finn Donelan and Charlie Wilcox scored touchdowns for the Giants. Wilcox scored on a fumble return to spark a spirited effort by the Giants' defense, which kept the Panthers bottled up in their own territory for much of the game. Norwalk/McMahon Girl Swimmers Stun Staples NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk-Brien McMahon girls swim team opened its season with a victory. This was not, however, just an ordinary win. The girls topped Staples, 102-86, the first time in the nine-year coaching tenure that the team has defeated the Wreckers. Using depth throughout its lineup, Norwalk/McMahon won nine of the 12 events. Norwalk Grizzlies 8th Graders Rip Ridgefield NORWALK, Conn. – Terrence Bates scored two touchdowns and Harrison Hefferan added 112 yards rushing and a touchdown to lead the Norwalk Grizzlies 8th grade football team over Ridgefield, 30-12, in a Fairfield County Football League game. Bates (115 yards rushing) and Hefferan led a strong running attack for the Grizzlies (1-1). Spencer Jacobsen added 66 yards rushing, Brendan Brown rushed for 28 and quarterback Tyler McMillian ran for 25. Bates, Hefferan and Brown also ran for PATs.
