Although none of the rowers from area communities medaled, many raced well enough to qualify their boats for next year's Summer Olympics. Boats in Stamford Race Hit the Water STAMFORD, Conn. – More than 90 boats started the Vineyard Race on Friday, beginning in Long Island Sound. Boats were on the course early Saturday morning. Finishers in the 116-mile Cornfield Point race are expected to be in Stamford late Saturday morning. In the 142-mile Seaflower Course, the lead pack was off Westbrook, Conn. In the 238-mile Vineyard Race, Blue Yankee was south of Block Island at about 7 a.m. and should be back in Stamford by early Saturday evening.
