Fairfield Softball Wins Section 1 Crown FAIRFIELD, Conn. Fairfield's softball team won its first Section 1 championship in the 12-year-old division Wednesday with a 4-0 victory over North Branford at Trumbull's Unity Park. The victory sends Fairfield to the state championship series beginning Saturday against Mystic. Fairfield went 5-0 in the Section 1 tournament, including two victories over North Branford. Brittany Romero pitched a complete-game three-hitter in Wednesday's championship game. She struck out eight and walked one. Norwalk Athletes Compete in Triathlon NORWALK, Conn. -- Many recreational athletes from Norwalk were among the contestants in Sunday's Mossman Sprint Triathlon at Calf Pasture Beach. Jessica Fox finished third overall among women to lead Norwalk athletes. Other top Norwalk finishers were Peter Eddy, who finished fourth overall and first in the men's 40-44 division. Lauren Madaffari won the women's 20-24 division and finished fourth among women and 73rd overall. Fairfield Triathletes Compete in Norwalk FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Triathletes from Fairfield ran, swam and rode bikes Sunday in the Mossman Sprint Triathlon at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk. The race attracted nearly 700 competitors, and they swam a half-mile, rode bikes for 12.5 miles and completed the race with a 3.1-mile run. Taylor Peterson was the top finisher from Fairfield, taking ninth overall and first in the men's 15-19-year-old division.
