Fairfield Girl Is Triple Threat in Sports FAIRFIELD, Conn. The pressure of the Section 1 softball tournament doesn't bother Fairfield's Anna Rasmussen. Whether it's softball, ice hockey or soccer, the rising seventh-grader at Roger Ludlowe Middle School always seems to be playing in important games. Rasmussen is playing second base for the Fairfield softball team, which plays for the Section 1 championship Wednesday. In April, Rasmussen played forward for the Mid-Fairfield girls hockey team that finished fifth in the country. In June, she celebrated a Connecticut Cup soccer championship with the Fairfield United. Stamford Triathletes Run, Swim, Bike in Norwalk STAMFORD, Conn. -- Triathletes from Stamford were among those competing in Sunday's Mossman Sprint Triathlon at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk. The race consisted of a half-mile swim, a 12.5-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run. Among the age group winners from Stamford were Kate DeSimone in the women's 40-44-year-old division and John Cook in the men's 75-79-year-old division. Young Triathletes Make Waves in Norwalk NORWALK, Conn. -- Kids showed their running, biking and swimming skills Saturday at the Mossman Kids Triathlon at Calf Pasture Beach. Kids ran in the 4-6, 7-10 and 11-14 age groups. The distances in each discipline varied depending on the age. The youngest groups swam 20 yards, rode one mile on the bike and ran for 100 yards. The middle age group kids swam 100 yards, rode for 2.5 miles and ran a half mile. The oldest kids swam 200 yards, rode five miles and ran one mile. Fairfield 10s Teams Square Off in Districts FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Teams from Fairfield American and Fairfield National squared off Saturday in the District 2 10-and-under baseball semifinals. The Americans won, 8-0, to advance to the championship game against Westport. The run ended there for Fairfield American, which dropped a 4-2 decision. Wilton Track Club Wins Junior Olympics Relay WILTON, Conn. -- Connecticut Elite Track and Field Club from Wilton created a buzz at the Region 1 Junior Olympic Championships at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., last Sunday. The young women's 4x100 team shot for a sub-50 relay after running 50.52 to win the state competition in June in New Britain, Conn. Wilton runners Kafesha Thomas, Taylor Gillespie and Margo Foley, along with Westport's Kelley Hussey, ran to a winning time of 50.27 and just missed their goal. Westport Teen Vaults to Junior Olympics Win WESTPORT, Conn. Westport's Lexie Schachne, a rising senior at Staples High School, won the pole vault with a personal best last weekend at the U.S.A. Track and Field Region 1 Junior championships in Troy, N.Y. Schachne won the Young Women's Division with a leap of 12 feet, 3 ¼ inches. Runner-up Jacilyn Briggs finished second at 11 feet, 5 ¾ inches. Click here for a video of Schachne's winning vault. Fairfield Girls Rally To Stop Seymour FAIRFIELD, Conn. Fairfield's 12-and-under softball team needed to show the heart of champion. It did, and now the girls are one victory away from claiming the Section 1 championship. Fairfield defeated Seymour, 8-5, on Monday at Unity Park in Trumbull.
