Westport Teams Alive in Little League Playoffs WESTPORT, Conn. The Westport 10-year-old All-Stars finished pool play 5-0 and advanced to the semifinals of the District 2 Tournament after routing North End, 28-0, in 3 ½ innings on Tuesday. Westport's 12-year-old All-Stars also advanced in the District 2 tournament. They finished pool play 3-2 after beating North End, 11-0, in 3 ½ innings on Tuesday. The will begin the double-elimination phase of the tournament Monday against Fairfield American, the defending District 2 champion. Darien U13s Win Babe Ruth District Opener DARIEN, Conn. -- The Darien Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Star team socked Greenwich, 7-2, in the opener of the District 1 tournament. Stephen Barston pitched five innings for the win, giving up one hit and striking out five. Edward Gozdz was on the mound the last two innings, giving up two hits and striking out four. The offense was led by Enzo Stefanoni (two hits), Jake Frasca (two hits) and Jamie Schofield (two hits, two RBIs). Fairfield American Blanks Trumbull FAIRFIELD, Conn. Fairfield American r olled over Trumbull American, 9-0, Tuesday to finish 5-0 in its pool of the District 2 Little League tournament. The Americans qualified for the double elimination phase of the tournament and will play Westport on Monday at Blackham School in Bridgeport. Roxbury Swimmers Dunk Newfield STAMFORD, Conn. Roxbury Swim Club is the defending champion in the Fairfield County Swimming League and a perennial league contender. Referee Celebrates Three Decades in NBA STAMFORD, Conn. Bennett Salvatore didn't count on a 30-year career as an official in the National Basketball Association. He wasn't confident he would make it through his first one. Darien's Softball Team Celebrates District Title DARIEN, Conn. Darien clinched its second straight championship in the District 1 Little League softball tournament Sunday with a 10-0 win over Ridgefield. Darien went 6-0 in the tournament and outscored its opponents, 77-15. Fairfield Girls Play for District Softball Title FAIRFIELD, Conn. Fairfield's 12-year-old softball team meets Black Rock on Tuesday for the District 2 tournament championship. Fairfield, the defending district champion, lost to Black Rock during pool play. Game time is 5:30 p.m. at Unity Park in Trumbull. Westport Teen 2nd at U.S. Track Meet WESTPORT, Conn. Staples High School senior Lexie Schachne finished second in the pole vault with a personal best effort at the U.S. World Youth Trials last week in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Schachne jumped 12 feet, 1½ inches. The meet was open to athletes born in 1994 and 1995 who met entry standards. Athletes who finished first or second were eligible for selection for the U.S. World Youth Team to compete in Lille, France.
