Darien Teams Play in District 1 Tourney The place to be Friday night in Darien is McGuane Park, where three teams from the Darien Little League will be vying in District 1 playoff games. The 12-year-old softball team will also be in action at the Darien High School junior varsity field. The marquee matchup at McGuane Field pits Darien National against Darien American at 5:45 p.m. in a 12-year-old Pool B game. On Your Mark, Westport, New Canaan Racers! The opening race in the Westport Summer Series is one of the options for recreational runners over the holiday weekend. Another is the popular Four on the Fourth on Monday at 9 a.m. in New Canaan. The New Canaan race begins at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Mark's Church. Ryan Hopkins and Norwalk's Amy Fredericks won the men's and women's races last year. The first race was in 1983. Runners can register at the New Canaan New Balance store through 3 p.m. Sunday. But Norwalk couldn't deliver the big hit, and it proved costly when Stamford erupted for four runs in the sixth to put the game away. 4 Beachside Teams Start Regional Play Four Beachside Soccer Club teams begin action Friday in the U.S. Youth Soccer Region 1 championships in Hershey, Pa. The teams from the Westport-based club qualified by winning state competitions last month.
