Joe DeSantis, one of the top men's basketball players ever at Fairfield University, was named one of six new members of the Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame Thursday. DeSantis will join the James O'Rourke Amateur Wing with Ceci Hopp St. Geme, a standout distance runner from Greenwich. Triathletes Hit Roads, Water in Stamford STAMFORD, Conn. The fourth edition of the KIC It Triathlon was the biggest and best yet, as nearly 400 athletes swam, rode and ran through downtown Stamford on Sunday. The event supports Kids In Crisis of Cos Cob, which provides around-the-clock care for Fairfield County children. County Sports Hall of Fame Adds Six Members STAMFORD, Conn. The Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame Thursday has named six prominent sports figures to its new class of inductees. The Hall of Fame, which is overseen by the Fairfield County Sports Commission, Inc., will induct the new members at its seventh annual Sports Night awards dinner Monday, Oct. 17, at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich. Stamford Golfer 2nd at Massachusetts Open STAMFORD, Conn. Stamford golfer Mike Ballo Jr. won two events on the West Florida Professional Golf Tour earlier this year. But he considers Wednesday's second-place finish in the Massachusetts Open a much bigger accomplishment. Ballo, a first-year pro who played at Trinity Catholic and St. John's, finished with a 54-hole total of 206, one shot behind winner Kyle Gallo. Stamford Babe Ruth Meets Australian Teams STAMFORD, Conn. -- Babe Ruth Baseball of Stamford, along with the I-84 Babe Ruth travel program, will host a team from Australia from June 30-July 6. The Australian program is run by Graeme Lloyd, a former Major Leaguer who played for the Mets and Yankees. Torch Club Kids Reach Out to Community SOUTHPORT, Conn. -- Community service by pre-teen children is alive and well. The Torch Club at the Wakeman Boys and Girls Club is proof. The club recently was honored by office supply store Staples for excellence in social recreation for its members, who are age 11-13. There are 60 children in the program, which is directed by Ruben Goodwin. He is also the club's program director for sports, fitness and recreation. Norwalk Ballplayers Ready for District Tournament NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk Little League players marched in Opening Cermonies for the District 1 Little League tournament Tuesday at Springdale School in Stamford. Norwalk is one of 14 teams in the tournament, which culminates with the championship game on July 17. The district winner advances to sectional competition.
