Weston Lacrosse Falls in State Playoffs Weston's boys lacrosse season came to a disappointing end Wednesday with an 8-6 loss to St. Joseph in the first round of the Class S tournament. The defending state champions finished the season 11-7. St. Joseph, the No. 12 seed, outscored fifth-seeded Weston 6-2 in the second half to advance to the quarterfinals against No. 4 Ledyard. Pat Corcoran scored four goals for the Cadets (9-8). Richie Miller had two goals and an assist for Weston. Jack Scheufele, Lyle Mitchell, Daniel Rogers and Kip McMahon also netted goals. Services Planned for NFL Legend Robustelli Services for Pro Football Hall of Famer Andy Robustelli will be held Friday and Saturday at Lacerenza Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 8 Schuyler Ave. in Stamford. Robustelli, 85, died Tuesday. He played for the New York Giants and the Los Angeles Rams in the National Football League and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971. Robustelli served as director of operations of the Giants from 1974-78 and also had a successful business career with Robustelli Corporate Services. He is survived by nine children and their spouses, 29 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.…

Warde, Ludlowe Girls Ousted in State Tennis Fairfield Warde girls tennis became the 21st consecutive victim of the powerhouse New Canaan team. The top-seed in the Connecticut L Division dropped the ninth-seeded Warde girls 6-1. Fairfield Ludlowe's girls were also eliminated with a 5-2 loss to No. 2 Glastonbury. On Tuesday, Warde had traveled to Newington and picked up a 7-0 sweep over the No. 8 host team in their state tourney opener. Westhill Sprinter 2nd in 2 State Races Westhill senior Dillin Smith has to look at the silver lining from Tuesday's Class LL track and field championships. The sprinter finished second in the 100- and the 200-meter races at Willowbrook Park in New Britain. Smith's performance highlighted the day for the Vikings, who finished 14th with 19.5 points. Nicole Ambrosecchio finished eighth in the 1,600 for Westhill's girls. Stamford's boys and girls did not accumulate any points. Darien Rugby Rolls to State Title The Darien High School Rugby Club added the Connecticut High Schools divisional championship title to its New York Metropolitan League crown at the annual state tournament at Simsbury last Sunday. The Blue Wave produced a dazzling display in each of their games, outscoring opponents 110-0. McMahon Girl Wins Sprint at State Track Brien McMahon’s Shelly Lindo won the 100 and finished third in the 200 to lead the way for Norwalk athletes at Tuesday’s Class LL track and field meet at Willowbrook Park in New Britain. Lindo won the 100 in 12.58 and was third in the 200 in 26.18. Norwalk’s Crystle Hill finished fourth in the 100 in 13.22. Lindo was also third in the 100-meter hurdles. McMahon’s Kim McElveen finished second in the discus with a toss of 103 feet, five inches. She was also eighth in the shot put. Norwalk Girls Win Scarsdale Soccer Tourney The Norwalk Sonics under-12 soccer team won the Scarsdale Memorial Day Tournament for the third straight year. The Sonics are a member of the Norwalk Junior Soccer Association. In their first game over the weekend, Norwalk tied regular season rivals Wilton Blue, 0-0, in a hard-fought game. The Sonics went on to beat the Scarsdale Jaguars, 2-0, and Scarsdale Galaxy, 3-1. In the final game, Norwalk won, 3-0, over the Munay Soccer Stars, to clinch first place.
