Easton's Meredith Anand won the women's division and finished 10th overall. Newtown's Zack Schwartz, 22, finished first in 15:28, a blistering 4:59 per mile pace. Newtown's Kevin Hoy, 20, took second in 16:14, followed by James Bloom, 19, of Weston, in 16:23. Stamford's Geoffrey Williams, 24, finished fourth in 16:30. Runners Can Get Memorial Day Fixx in Greenwich The Jim Fixx Memorial Day 5-Mile run begins at 8:15 a.m. Monday in downtown Greenwich. A half-mile race for kids will be held at the nearby Havemeyer track. The entry fees for the 5-mile race are $20 pre-entry and $25 on the morning of the race. The entry fees for the Kids' Half-Mile Race are $10 pre-entry and $15 on the morning of the race. Last year's 5-mile run had 349 finishers and was won by Ryan Hopkins of Greenwich with a time of 27:01. Kristen Bates of Greenwich was the women's champion and 21st overall with a 32:59. Darien Tames Tigers for League Lacrosse Title After building an 8-2 halftime lead over Ridgefield, Darien was on cruise control Friday en route to the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference boys lacrosse championship. The Tigers made things interesting in the second half before the top-seeded Blue Wave hung on for a 10-7 victory and their 12th league crown. It was the Blue Wave's first since 2008. Ludlowe Softball Reaches League Title Game Fairfield Ludlowe's softball team needed to win a tiebreaker to qualify for the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference softball tournament. Friday, the Falcons play for their first league championship. Ludlowe (14-8) scored five runs in the first inning and hung on to defeat Danbury, 6-5, at Fairfield University. Darien Little League Seeks Items for Soldiers The Darien Little League will show its support for U.S. servicemen and women Memorial Day weekend with its fourth annual Operation DLL Cares at McGuane Park. Darien's Little League, the largest in the U.S., collects and packages items for the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Last year, 250 packages were sent to service personnel overseas, many of whom have a Darien connection. The packages include snacks, toiletries, playing cards and magazines. Warde Girl Wins Shot Put at League Track Meet Fairfield Warde's Alyson Leppla won the shot put and took second in the discus to lead athletes from Fairfield schools at Tuesday's Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference track and field championships at Danbury High School. Warde's girls finished eighth with 47 points, and Ludlowe was 12th with 12 points. Danbury won with 162.5. In the boys meet, Ludlowe (40.5) was eighth and Warde (19) was 13th. Wilton 5K Supports the District's Schools The Wilton Education Foundation helps support the school district's teachers, and Sunday's Get Smart for Wilton 5K helps support the foundation. The race begins at 9 a.m. at the Wilton High School track. There is also a walk beginning at 9:15. Runners can register the day of the race for $20. Proceeds help the foundation provide professional development for teachers and the latest in interactive technology. Sunday's races offer a $100 prize for first place, $75 for second, $50 for third.
