Staples Boys Track Finishes 2nd, Girls 3rd Staples sophomore Henry Wynne surprised Danbury's Alex Levine to win the 1,600 and pace the Wreckers boys to a second-place finish at Tuesday's Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference track and field championships. The Staples girls placed third. Wynne's surprising victory was one of the top performances for the boys, who finished with 95.5 points. Danbury won with 126, and Wilton was third with 59. Wilton U9 Swimmers Start Season Strong The youngest members of the Wilton Y Wahoos swim team kicked off their new season with a 9 & under meet earlier this month at the Darien YMCA. Wilton's Nate Snyder took home the third-place overall high-point trophy for the boys. Eight-year-old Nate finished first in the 25 free, second in the 25 back, third in the 25 fly, and sixth in the 25 breast. New Canaan Girl Wins 2 Races at Fciacs Caroline Murray won two events to lead the New Canaan girls to a seventh-place finish Tuesday at the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference track and field championships at Danbury High School. The New Canaan boys finished sixth. Murray, a senior won the 1,600 in 5:06.54 and led the Rams to a 1-2 finish in the 3,200. She finished in 11:24.12, followed by Stephanie Benko in 11:27.43. Norwalk Wildcats Enjoy a Hot Start The fifth-grade Norwalk Wildcats Junior Lacrosse team started where it left off last season by winning its first six games of the year. The Wildcats started off their season against the New Canaan Lions with a convincing win, 15-5. Their next game ended much closer as the Wildcats battled Weston in a back-and-forth game that ended with a Norwalk win, 6-4. Weston U11 Takes 2nd in Clinton Tournament The Weston U11 Gold boys travel soccer team had an excellent run at the 17th annual Clinton Invitational Soccer tournament this past weekend. The team went undefeated through the two-day event before falling 2-1 to Madison Gold in a tightly contested championship final. Norwalk U10 Soccer Girls Off to Perfect Start The Norwalk Junior Soccer Association Under-10 girls soccer team started its season in typical fashion by winning its first six games of league play. Blue Thunder opened the season with a convincing win against Darien, 6-0. The following week they traveled to Danbury in what would end up being one of Blue Thunders' most consistent games all year. Saugatuck Sends 7 Boats to Nationals Saugatuck Rowing Club won four races and qualified seven boats for next month's U.S. Youth Nationals with a strong performance at last weekend's Northeast Regionals on the Merrimack River in Massachusetts. "We were really happy with how the kids raced this weekend,'' Saugatuck coach Sharon Kriz said. "We knew the boats were moving fast and if we executed as planned we would qualify. But you have to be careful not to be too confident."
