Norwalk Oyster Festival Sets Sail This Weekend NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk is gearing up for its annual Oyster Festival, which starts this Friday and promises a weekend full of music, events and family fun. The Norwalk Seaport Association held a ribbon-cutting Wednesday with volunteers and presenting sponsor First County Bank to kick off the annual event, which is now in its 38th year. Two Charged With Stealing Scooter In Darien; Police Seek Link To Thefts DARIEN, Conn. -- Two men were charged with trying to steal a scooter from the Darien train station, and police believe they may be responsible for at least one more scooter theft in town. Maurice Williams, 32, of Stamford and Michael Johnson, 31, of Norwalk were each charged with criminal attempt at third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny and possession of burglar tools. Purse Snatched From Car At Darien Gas Station DARIEN, Conn. -- A purse was snatched from a Rhode Island resident's car as she stopped at a gas station in Darien last week, police said. The theft was reported at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2. Police: New Canaan Man Tried To Drive Drunk With Child In Car NORWALK, Conn. -- Concerned citizens called the police Sunday after seeing a couple who appeared intoxicated try to drive away from a bar with a child in the car, according to Norwalk police. Police: Norwalk Man Tried To Rob Two Women With A Stick NORWALK, Conn. — A 23-year-old Norwalk man was arrested after two women told police he tried to rob them with a stick early Sunday, police said. Michael Mejia-Diaz was charged with first-degree robbery, possession of narcotics, possession with intent to sell, possession of marijuana and second-degree breach of peace. Norwalk Teen Charged With Selling Pot From His Home NORWALK, Conn. -- A Norwalk man was arrested Friday morning and charged with selling marijuana out of his North Taylor Avenue home, police said. Shawn Bowman, 18, was charged with possession of less than 4 ounces of marijuana, sale of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was held on $5,000 bond and will appear in court Sept. 15. Norwalk Police Conduct DUI Checkpoint Saturday NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk and New Canaan police will conduct a DUI checkpoint on the Route 1 corridor in Norwalk Saturday night. The checkpoint will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday and last until 3 a.m. Sunday morning. There will also be two officers conducting roving DUI enforcement throughout the city of Norwalk.
