Community Plates Tackles Food Waste And Hunger In New Canaan NORWALK, Conn. – Food waste and food insecurity are both major issues in Fairfield County, but the Norwalk-based Community Plates is addressing both issues by taking unused food and delivering it to the people who need it most. Many restaurants and retail stores throw away food that is past its sell-by date, even though the food is still fresh and healthy to eat for days afterwards. Police Search Landfill For Remains Of Missing Easton Couple EASTON, Conn. -- State police searched a landfill in Putnam for the remains of missing Easton couple Jeanette and Jeffrey Navin, but the search yielded no results, according to the Connecticut Post. The Post reported that police searched the Putnam Ash Residue Landfill, which is operated by Wheelabrator Technologies and located in Putnam, Conn. Two Charged With Delivering Heroin To Darien DARIEN, Conn. -- Two men were arrested delivering heroin into Darien Thursday, according to police. Joshua Sanchez, 24, of Ansonia was charged with possession of narcotics and possession with intent to sell. Roberto I. Cales was charged with possession of narcotics, possession with intent to sell and possession o marijuana. Both posted $50,000 bonds and will appear in court Aug. 31. This year there have been 28 heroin-related overdose deaths in Fairfield County, according to police. Man Dies After Fall From I-95 Bridge In Norwalk Updated, 7:45 p.m. NORWALK, Conn. -- A man died after falling from the I-95 bridge onto West Avenue in Norwalk Friday afternoon, according to police. The incident occurred at 3:23 p.m. when a man fell from the bridge onto the road. Police have confirmed that the male victim had died. The name of the victim is being withheld until notification of the family. As of 7:30 p.m. all southbound lanes and one northbound lane on West Avenue are open. Car Rolls Over On I-95 North In Norwalk NORWALK, Conn. -- A car rolled over and hit a rock wall on I-95 north in Norwalk Friday morning. The Norwalk Fire Department responded to the rollover between Exits 13 and 14 at 6:46 a.m. Friday. One of the three people in the car was pinned and had to be extricated by firefighters. Fire officials said the injured were taken to Norwalk Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Witnesses told firefighters that the car rolled over several times before it hit the wall.

Norwalk Police Issue 301 Tickets For Distracted Driving NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk police handed out 301 tickets to drivers using their cell phones during a recent crackdown on distracted driving. The enforcement campaign was conducted with the state Department of Transportation. From Aug. 3 to Aug. 16 Norwalk police held 12 distracted driving checkpoints at various locations throughout the city. Each checkpoint was manned by four officers and a supervisor. Bridgeport Police Investigate Two Separate Shootings BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Two men are in stable condition after being shot in separate incidents in Bridgeport, police said. The first incident took place near the corner of Jane Street and Brooks Street. Police said they received a call of shots fired at 10:23 p.m. Wednesday. A 26 year-old male sustained a single gunshot wound to the upper left leg, police said. He told officers that he was attacked by two black males dressed all in black on Jane Street. Darien Runner Wins Silver Medal At Masters World Championship DARIEN, Conn. – Darien runner Jennifer St. Jean thought she had hung up her track spikes for good 17 years ago, but she came back and last week won a silver medal at the World Masters Track and Field Championships in Lyon, France. St. Jean, 40, finished the women’s (40-44) 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:37.0, missing out on the gold by three-tenths of a second. Missing Easton Couple's Son Reportedly Named Person Of Interest BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The son of an Easton couple who went missing two weeks ago has been named a person of interest in their disappearance, according to NBC Connecticut.
