Scooter Stolen From Driveway Of Darien Home DARIEN, Conn. -- A scooter was stolen from a driveway on Hollow Tree Ridge Road some time in the last couple of weeks, Darien police said. The scooter was a 2013 Yamaha Zuma valued at $2,500. It is uncertain when the scooter was actually stolen, police said. The owner reported that the scooter had been left in the driveway outside the garage with the key in it, police said. Police: Norwalk Man Tried To Escape Custody After Arrest NORWALK, Conn. -- A Norwalk man tried to escape from his holding cell after he was arrested on charges of driving away from a car crash, according to police. Elvin Lopez-Hernandez, 27, was charged with operating without a license, criminal attempt, criminal mischief, unsafe backing, escape from custody and evading responsibility. Counterfeit $20 Bills Used At Darien Stop & Shop, Police Say DARIEN, Conn. -- Two people recently passed off more than $500 in counterfeit bills at a Darien Stop & Shop, according to police. The incident occurred on July 21 at the Stop & Shop in the Goodwives Shopping Center on Old Kings Highway South and was reported to police on July 24. According to police a man walked into the store at 1:12 p.m. and bought some Pampers wipes, a birthday card and a $300 prepaid MasterCard gift card, worth a total of $317.95. Police: Norwalk Woman Took Cash, Broke Into Home Of Boyfriend's Grandfather NORWALK, Conn. -- A Norwalk woman was charged with stealing from her boyfriend's elderly grandfather and later breaking into his house, according to police. Ericka Rodriguez, 25, was charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree forgery, possession of drug paraphernalia, interfering with an officer and sixth-degree larceny. She was also charged with two counts of failure to appear in court in 2013. Norwalk Man Charged With Threatening 63-Year-Old NORWALK, Conn. -- A Norwalk man was charged with threatening a 63-year-old resident after asking him for a ride early Thursday, police said. Chad Leary, 36, was charged with second-degree threatening. He was held on $500 bond and will appear in court Aug. 10. Rings Worth $10,000 Stolen From Car In Darien DARIEN, Conn. -- Three rings worth a total of $10,000 were stolen from a car in Darien, according to police. The rings were stolen from a 2015 Audi Q5 at some point between the evening of July 21 and the following morning. The car's owner told police that she parked at Equinox on Heights Road at 6 p.m. on July 21 and placed the three rings in the ash tray and covered them up. Box With $140K In Belongings Stolen From Couple Moving To Darien DARIEN, Conn. -- A couple moving from New York to Darien discovered that a box containing $140,000 worth of jewelry, heirlooms and other items went missing from their moving truck, according to police. The theft was reported Friday, July 24, at 8 a.m. The 36-year-old husband and 35-year-old wife met with police and said they had loaded a moving truck in New York City the previous day and traveled to Darien.
