Fairfield Prep Helps Bring Christmas To Children In Need FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Fairfield College Preparatory School recently held a toy drive for families in the Bridgeport area, in support of the Diocese of Bridgeport Office of Social Concerns. Prep students collected hundreds of new, unwrapped toys, as well as packages of diapers, filling Pedro Arrupe Hall with the items. Members of Prep's squires club helped load the toys into vehicles.

Yorktown Police Charge 21-Year-Old Man, Teen Girl With Stealing From Sears YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Yorktown police arrested a 21-year-old male from Yonkers and a 16-year-old female from Carmel on shoplifting charges on Monday. Police received a call Monday from Sears security reporting two shoplifters in custody, police report. Following an investigation at the scene, officers arrested Lucas Rodriguez and the teenage female, whose name is being withheld due to her eligibility for youthful offender status, according to officials. Darien YMCA Cares Club Collecting Gloves, Mittens for Shelter DARIEN, Conn. -- The Darien YMCA's Y Cares Club of middle school and high school students met at the Y to complete a number of charitable holiday projects on Saturday, Dec. 5. The group’s activities included making cards for American service personnel, and tree garland for the Darien Nature Center. They also put up the Darien YMCA holiday giving tree, and will be collecting new and gently used gloves, hats and mittens for the Bridgeport YMCA emergency shelter until Monday, December 21. Donations can be made at the Darien Y lobby in a box next to the tree.

New Canaan High School Senior Michael Collins Named News 12 Scholar Athlete NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Michael Collins, a senior at New Canaan High School, was recently named a News 12 Connecticut Scholar Athlete. A record-setting quarterback for the football team, Collins’ achievements on the gridiron include a nine-touchdown pass performance against Trumbull. Collins is also a standout student, and a volunteer with “Staying Put New Canaan,” an organization that helps senior citizens stay in their homes. Google Maps Street View Car Spotted In Fairfield FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Google Maps Street View car was recently spotted in Tunxis Hill and Villa Avenue in Fairfield. The Subaru Impreza, which has been fitted with a 360-degree panoramic camera, was also recently spotted near the Circle Diner at 441 Post Rd. SoNo Branch Library Holding Workshop On Making Edible Gingerbread Houses NORWALK, Conn. -- The SoNo Branch Library, 10 Washington St., is hosting a workshop where children can learn to make edible gingerbread houses. Civic Center In Greenwich Holding Skating Party For Kids GREENWICH, Conn. -- The Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center is hosting a roller skating party for kids in grades K through 6 on Tuesday, December 29, from 1 to 3 p.m. The cost to skate is $7, and includes the skate rental, if needed.
