Sherman Seniors Having Holiday Party At The Hearth SHERMAN, Conn. -- The Sherman Senior Center is having a holiday party at the Hearth Restaurant on Wednesday, December 16, at 1 p.m. Entrée choices will include sliced steak, baked scrod and stuffed chicken. Cherish The Ladies Brings Irish Sounds To Sacred Heart University FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Cherish the Ladies will be performing at the Edgerton Center at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield on Sunday. The concert is presented by the Sacred Heart University Center for Irish Cultural Studies and the Shamrock Traditional Irish Music Society. The ensemble group has been a mainstay in Irish music for more than two decades. Danbury Hospital Offers Basic Emergency Medical Technician Course DANBURY, Conn. -- Western Connecticut Health Network Emergency Medical Services will offer a basic emergency medical technician course at Danbury Hospital starting Tuesday, Jan. 12. The three-month course will meet every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7 to 11 p.m., and occasional Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Upon completion of the EMT-basic class, participants will be qualified to take the National Registry exams to receive Connecticut and National EMT-B certification. Shelton's Plumb Library Celebrates 120th Anniversary Sunday SHELTON, Conn. -- Plumb Memorial Library, 65 Wooster St., is hosting a reception to mark the facility’s 120th anniversary on Sunday, Dec. 13, at 3 p.m. The event, which is open to the public, will also recognize local craftsmen and merchants who have helped with restoration details on the original library’s reading room. The venue was completed and dedicated in December of 1895, a gift to the community from David Wells Plumb and his wife, Louise Wakelee Plumb. The facility was expanded in 1975.

Passaic Runs For The Festival Of Lights PASSAIC, N.J. -- Passaic will hold its second annual Hanukkah 5K and fun run on Sunday, Dec. 13. The 5K starts at 10 a.m., and the one-mile fun run at 11 a.m. at the Boathouse Cafe in Memorial Park. Registration is $30 for the 5K and free for the fun run, with a suggested donation of $5. Proceeds benefit Bikur Cholim of Passaic-Clifton, Congregation Adas Israel and Chabad of Passaic-Clifton. There wil be prizes and long sleeve T-shirts for runners, plus refreshments. Man Apprehended After I-87 Police Chase New York State Police have arrested a 53-year-old man after a pursuit on I-87 in Newburgh which ended in the Town of Olive, officials report. The suspect, Paul D. Koksvik, a resident of Newburgh, was reported to be traveling southbound in the northbound lane on Interstate 87, according to police. Koksvik exited the Thruway in Kingston, proceeding west, when his car was stopped in the Town of Ulster by police, officials report.
