Stamford American Little League Plans Rookie Clinic STAMFORD, Conn. – Stamford American Little League will conduct a free rookie clinic for players ages 4-6 on March 2, at Davenport Ridge Elementary School. The clinic runs from 2-3 p.m. Parents should register boys and girls for the clinic at Stamford Baptist Church, 602 High Ridge Road, on Thursday, from 6-8 p.m. Parents can also register at the church on Feb. 7, from 6-8 and on Feb. 9, from 9-noon. Race To Fight Breast Cancer Coming To Westport In May WESTPORT, Conn. – Organizers of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure have been considering a new race in Connecticut for more than two years. This May, the organization will host a five-kilometer race in Westport as it branches into Fairfield County. “We had discussions about growth and we felt that we kind of maxed out in Hartford at Bushnell Park,’’ said Anne Morris, executive director of the Connecticut affiliate. “We can’t accommodate any more there, and we weren’t ready to move the venue. Norwalk Eighth Grade Girls Hoop Team Continues To Excel NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk Girls Basketball Association coach Jeff Iannazzo led an eighth-grade girls team to a 35-0 record back in 2005-06. Staples Girls Basketball Tries To Extend State Streak WESTPORT, Conn. – The Staples High School’s girls basketball team has made the state tournament every year since 1985. The Wreckers have some work to do over the next three weeks if they are to accomplish that goal this season. Registration Opens Tuesday For Triathlon in Stamford STAMFORD, Conn. – Registration opens Tuesday for the sixth annual Stamford KIC It Triathlon. The event will be June 30, beginning at Cummings Park. The third annual Kids Triathlon will be June 29. Darien Girls Basketball Team Wins 6th Straight DARIEN, Conn. – Darien High’s girls basketball team scored the first 13 points of the game Friday night and went on to defeat Staples, 45-30, in Westport. The victory was the sixth straight for the surging Blue Wave, who improved to 10-4 overall and 9-3 in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference.
