Staples Girls Basketball Falls To Darien WESTPORT, Conn. – Staples High School’s girls basketball team fell in a big hole early and lost to Darien, 45-30, in a Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference game Friday in Westport. Staples slipped to 5-9 overall and 5-7 in the league. Darien won its sixth straight to improve to 10-4 overall and 9-3 in the league. Nikki Bukovsky scored 17 points to lead Staples. Meg Marren had a game-high 20 points for Darien. Darien scored the first 13 points of the game. Norwalk-Based Cheer Team Excels In Opening Competition NORWALK, Conn. – A team from Norwalk-based Xtreme Cheer took second place in its first competition of the season and qualified for one of cheerleading’s most prestigious events Sunday in Atlantic City, N.J. Xtreme’s Flare, a Level 3 team for girls ages 10-18, dazzled the crowd at the Beast of the East competition. New Rink Motivates Scholastic Hockey Players In Norwalk NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk and Brien McMahon co-op boys ice hockey team has a renewed sense of pride this winter: With a rink it can call its own, the hockey hybrid has a new attitude and optimism. “The sense of pride and feeling of having a home rink is spectacular,’’ said coach Dan Feighan, who has been the team’s coach for four years. “Having your own home rink definitely has its advantages. Greenwich Woman Named College Lacrosse Co-Captain GREENWICH, Conn. – Before she has played a game, Greenwich freshman Claire Feeney is making an impact on the Winthrop University women’s lacrosse team. Feeney was one of three girls named Thursday as tri-captains for the Eagles, a first-year program. The school is in Rock Hill, S.C. Weston Girls Basketball Builds For The Long Haul WESTON, Conn. – Dan Rosen won 14 games in his first year as the coach of the Weston High School girls basketball in the 2010-11 season. Norwalk Recreational Athletes Invited To New Races FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Recreational athletes in Fairfield County will have new racing options this year in Westport and Greenwich. In Westport, Sherwood Island State Park will host the Susan G. Komen For The Cure 5-kilometer run on May 11.
