Westhill's Claire Howlett Sets School Track Record STAMFORD, Conn. – As the high school indoor track season hits the homestretch, Westhill High junior Claire Howlett is proving she is ready for the big meets after an impressive race Saturday at the Yale Invitational. Howlett won her heat and set a school record in the 3,000 meters. Her time of 10:06.46 shattered the previous record of 10:15 set by Madde Elkins in 2009. She outdistanced the field by more than 15 seconds and was the top Connecticut runner in nine heats. Howlett’s time was the sixth fastest time among the 230 girls who ran the race. Wilton's Casey Pearsall Earns Honor From Sports Writers WILTON, Conn. – Wilton High School senior Casey Pearsall has been named the High School Athlete of the Year by the Connecticut Sports Writers’ Alliance and will be honored at the group’s Gold Key Dinner in April. Pearsall and Ansonia High football player Arkeel Newsome were named the winners of the Hal Levy High School Athlete of the Year award. Danbury Boys Basketball Falls To Trinity DANBURY, Conn. – Danbury High School’s boys basketball team stayed close to once-beaten Trinity Catholic late into the third quarter Friday night before falling to the Crusaders, 67-54, in Stamford. Danyjoel Harris scored 30 points to lead the Hatters, who fell to 5-4 overall and 3-4 in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference. Trinity Catholic Boys Basketball Dunks Danbury STAMFORD, Conn. – Trinity Catholic High School’s boys basketball team bounced back from its first loss of the season to defeat Danbury, 67-54, on Friday night in Stamford. Brandon Wheeler scored 24 points to lead the Crusaders, who improved to 9-1 overall and 7-1 in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference. New Canaan Kids Invited To Free Throw Competition NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Free Throws For Full Court Peace, a fund-raiser to assist middle and high school students in Stamford and Bridgeport, will be held Sunday at New Canaan High School. The event begins at 3 p.m. for New Canaan children in grades 4-8. The program is hosted by New Canaan High School boys basketball coach Mike Evans, also the founder of Full Court Peace. Westport Hosts Holiday Hoop Clinic For Boys WESTPORT, Conn. – There will be a boys' basketball clinic for players in grades 2-8 Monday at Staples High School. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the clinic is from 9-11 a.m. It costs $35 per player or $60 for two brothers. Norwalk's Brown Family Sets Basketball Scoring Standard NORWALK, Conn. – Basketball is a team game, and for two generations, there has been no “team” in the state better at scoring than the Brown family of Norwalk. Earlier this month, King senior Tatiana Brown became the 12th player at the Stamford school to surpass 1,000 career points. Her sister Briana, now a junior at St. John’s, holds the school record with 2,203 points. Their father, Tyrone, scored nearly 1,148 points during his career at Norwalk before he graduated in 1986. Staples HS Football Star James Frusciante Going To Princeton WESTPORT, Conn. – For three years, Staples High School wide receiver James Frusciante wreaked havoc on defensive secondaries throughout the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference. Now, he’ll present the same challenges for football teams in the Ivy League. Frusciante accepted a position on the football team at Princeton University on Wednesday.
