Norwalk Fire Dept. Hockey Team Repeats As League Champs NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk Fire Department’s hockey team was on its heels for the entire third period of Wednesday’s Connecticut Hockey League Tier 4 championship game. Thanks to goalie Bryan Fogle and an outstanding defense, the Fireman held on to beat the Yellow Jackets, 2-1, and win their second straight league title. Said Fogle, who made 36 saves, “All the credit goes to the defense. The shots they were getting were from angles that all I had to do was maintain my angle. Jovan Kingwood Named Fairfield Athlete Of The Month FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Notre Dame of Fairfield girls basketball team improved immediately last winter when Jovan Kingwood joined the team. This winter, the senior has helped the Lancers get off to their best start in five years. Kingwood was named The Fairfield Daily Voice Athlete of the Month after leading Notre Dame to a 7-0 record in December and the championship in the Appalachian Christmas Tournament. Perfect Start Pumps Up Stamford High Girls Basketball Team STAMFORD, Conn. – Some thought Stamford High’s strong start in the girls basketball season was the byproduct of a weak early schedule. But Tuesday’s 59-39 blowout of a good Fairfield Warde squad may silence the skeptics. Stamford improved to 10-0 and 8-0 in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference. Stamford Cheer Teams Win Trophies At Massachusetts Meet STAMFORD, Conn. – Six cheerleading teams from the Stamford-based Gold Coast All-Stars won trophies at the group’s second competition of the season Saturday in Worcester, Mass. Gold Coast teams won three first-place trophies and three second-place trophies at The Coastal Corporation Cheer and Dance Big League Brawl. Danbury Will Host Race To Help Sandy Hook Families DANBURY, Conn. – Runners who want to support the families affected by the Newtown tragedy can sign up for a race slated for the Western Connecticut State University campus in Danbury. The 5-kilometer Sandy Hook Run For the Families will take place March 23 at 10 a.m. The race will start and finish at the O’Neill Center on the college’s Westside campus and will not leave the college grounds. Competition STAMFORD, Conn. – Three teams from the Stamford-based Southern Connecticut Synchronized Skating Club won medals, including two golds, at the Colonial Classic last weekend in Lowell, Mass.
