Runners Race Around Norwalk Streets In Buildup Opener NORWALK, Conn. – Temperatures in the low 40s and a gentle breeze greeted runners in Norwalk Sunday for the 35th annual rite of winter recreation, the opening leg of the Boston Buildup running series. Nearly 400 contestants ran the 10-kilometer course that rolls through Norwalk and Rowayton in ideal winter conditions. Charity Group Calls Norwalk Runners For Half Marathon NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk-based Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation is seeking runners for the New York City half marathon on March 17. Runners will need to raise $1,000 for the foundation. Runners get access to a bib, a team jersey, online-training plan, cheer zone for supporters, a party after the race and running gifts. Darien Boys Basketball Team Nipped By Trumbull DARIEN, Conn. – Coming off a victory in the LaVista Tournament last week, Darien High’s boys basketball team looked to extend its winning streak to a modest three games. Wilton Swimmers Shine In North Carolina Meet WILTON, Conn. – A team of swimmers from the Wilton Wahoos competed at the Capital Classic last month in North Carolina and qualified for the YMCA Nationals in their individual events. Wahoo swimmers who qualified for nationals were Courtney Gilroy, Grace Hendee, Sean Higgins, Stephen Holmquist, Maggie Kauffeld, Tommy Kealy, Bobby McDowell and Stephanie Moriarty. The meet featured some of the top swimmers in the country from North and South Carolina, Virginia, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Connecticut.

Young Norwalk Wrestlers Reap Harvest Of Holiday Medals NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk Mad Bull youth wrestling program continued to shine in recent holiday competitions. In the Bristol Holiday Tournament, Norwalk wrestlers earned 14 medals, including six championships. At a tournament in Bethel last weekend, five Mad Bulls took home gold medals and 10 others also won medals. New Canaan Runner Prepares For Annual Buildup Series NEW CANAAN, Conn. – New Canaan’s Will McDonough won the overall title in the Boston Buildup running series last winter. Whether he repeats in 2013 might be in the hands of a couple of young children. McDonough, 28, plans to be on the starting line for Sunday’s 10K at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk. It is the first leg in the 35-year-old, four-race series. New Coach For New Canaan Boys Basketball Gets First Win NEW CANAAN, Conn. – The first victory of Mike Evans’ coaching career at New Canaan High School may have been the most difficult to attain. Mid-Fairfield Girls Hockey Team Wins Holiday Tournament NORWALK, Conn. – The Mid-Fairfield Connecticut Stars under-16 girls hockey team won the Polar Bears tournament last weekend in Newington. The Stars beat Assabet White Major of Massachusetts for the championship, 2-1, in double overtime. Kerry Sheehan-Delany scored the go-ahead goal with an assist from Madison Lyford. Stamford Youth Hockey Team Wins Regional Tournament STAMFORD, Conn. – The Stamford Sharks Squirt A hockey team won the New England Regional Silver Sticks championship last weekend in Bridgeport. The victory qualifies the team for the Silver Stick championships in Ontario, Canada, later in January. The Sharks went 5-0 in the tournament and outscored opponents 28-6.
