Stamford's Cognetta Makes Impact With Keene Basketball STAMFORD, Conn. – Freshman Kelsey Cognetta of Stamford has made an immediate impact on the women’s basketball team at Keene State in New Hampshire. Cognetta scored 12 points and played 23 minutes for Keene (4-6) on Tuesday in a 58-57 win over Colby College in the consolation game of the Keene State Holiday Tournament. She grabbed the final rebound when Colby missed a jumper with three seconds left, and Keene ran out the clock. Norwalk 5th-Grade Hoop Team Wins Holiday Tournament NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk Youth Basketball fifth-grade boys team won the Rock the Bells Christmas Classic tournament last week in Bridgeport. Norwalk lost its opening game, 36-28, to the Bridgeport-based CT Express, an AAU squad. Norwalk bounced back with a win over the Fairfield Minions, 33-26, and PHD of Fairfield, 23-20. Fairfield Prep Boys Basketball Has Look Of A Powerhouse FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield Prep’s boys basketball team reached the semifinals of the Class LL tournament last winter, and the finals in 2011. This year, the Jesuits appear poised to make another run to win their first state crown since 1997. Prep improved to 6-0 last week by winning its holiday tournament with victories over Fairfield Ludlowe High School and Notre Dame High School of Fairfield. Fairfield Prep Boys Basketball Wins Holiday Tourney FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Notre Dame of Fairfield faced a tall order against Fairfield Prep and its 7-foot, 1-inch center, Pascal Chukwu, in Friday’s title game of the Fairfield Prep Holiday Classic. Stamford's Kelsey Cognetta Becomes Keen On Keene STAMFORD, Conn. – Former Stamford High basketball star Kelsey Cognetta will have a new home with the Keene State team when the Owls return for practice next week. Cognetta transferred to Keene in New Hampshire after one semester at William Paterson University. Weston Boys Basketball Falls To Ridgefield WESTON, Conn. – Weston High’s boys basketball team found out Thursday why Ridgefield is a perennial playoff participant in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference. Runners Can Fly Into New Year At Danbury Race DANBURY, Conn. – Runners can step out on New Year’s Eve with a 5k run as part of the First Night Danbury celebration. The 5k Run Into the New Year begins at 3 p.m. on the Danbury Green. The race is hosted by CityCenter Danbury.
