Stamford Cheer Event Will Include Heavy Hearts STAMFORD, Conn. – Nicole Cuscuna had a profound impact on a lot of girls as a cheerleading coach in the Stamford Youth Foundation. Cuscuna, who died of a heart attack on Oct. 26 at age 44, will be on the minds of many during Saturday’s cheerleading exhibition at Stamford High School. “It will be a heartfelt performance,’’ said Krissy Carboni, the SYF cheeleading president. “She was a loving mom, wonderful coach and everyone’s biggest cheerleader. Westhill Freshman Dives Into Record Books STAMFORD, Conn. – Before this year, Westhill had not had a girl win a league or state diving championship. Freshman Rachel Burston put herself into the record books, and she’s just getting started. Burston, who won the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference title last week, added the Class LL crown to her resume Monday. Weston Girls Take 2nd Place In State Swimming WESTON, Conn. – Weston’s quest for a third straight girls swimming state championship fell short Tuesday as league rival Lauralton Hall held off the Trojans. Lauralton Hall compiled 801 points, while Weston took second with 772.5. East Catholic was a distant third with 292. Senior Olivia Clark won the 500 free and 100 backstroke for Weston. 2 Fairfield Youth Football Teams Reach League Semis FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Two Fairfield Wildcats teams have reached the semifinals of the Fairfield County Football League playoffs. They play in the semifinals on Wednesday at Fairfield Ludlowe High School. The seventh-grade Wildcats defeated Westport, 15-0. Fairfield Giants Cheerleaders Go For National Title FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield Giants Pee Wee cheerleaders won the New England championship and will compete for the Pop Warner National Championship next month in Orlando, Fla. They are the second team in the Giants’ 46-year history to compete for a national title. The 2008 Giants Junior Midget football team won a national title in 2008. Young New Canaan Runners Race At State Jr. Olympics NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Cali Brannan finished third in her age group to lead six runners from the New Balance New Canaan Running Club at the Connecticut Junior Cross Country championships in Litchfield, Conn., on Sunday. Greenwich Woman Masters Marathon Field In Pa. GREENWICH, Conn. – Greenwich’s Tara Allen wasn’t going to let her New York City Marathon training go to waste. On Sunday, she won the masters division at the Harrisburg Marathon in Pennsylvania, running a personal best time of 3:10:52. “This was my replacement race,’’ said Allen, 40, a Spanish teacher at Darien High School. “It was a bit of a roller-coaster ride. Rippowam JV Wins Stamford Youth Football Crown STAMFORD, Conn. – The Rippowam junior varsity football team defeated Cloonan, 20-6, to win the Stamford Youth Foundation Middle School championship on Sunday at Boyle Stadium. Rippowam finished the season 8-0, and has lost just once in the past two seasons. Dolan nipped Rippowam, 13-12, in the 2011 junior varsity title game. Rippowam's varsity team also won the league championship. Matthew Valentin’s 14-yard run staked Rippowam to an early lead.
